COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deserving the title "Emperor of Ales" (unlike the bourgeois "King of Beers"), Imperial is the strongest and fullest of all stouts. Imperials originally were brewed with large quantities of hops and a high alcohol content to withstand long, unrefrigerated journeys. Rogue Imperial Stout, considered the high end of stouts, is made of 2-row Great Western Harrington & Klages, Hugh Baird XLT-80, Black, Munich and Chocolate Malts; Willamette, Cascade and Chinook hops; rolled oats; and two secret ingredients. Unfiltered and unfined, Imperial Stout is best when aged for one year. Imperial Stout is available in a new 12-ounce bottle (replacing the older 7-ounce XS-line package) and on draft.

Almost perfect, this is a great experience, the only complaint is the malty aftertaste, but even that is masked beautifully by the hoppy suprise that you can only taste when you exhale. GREAT!

2009, 7 oz, XS series bottle: Pours nearly black, oily, with a thin, dark brown skim. Molasses/chocolate aroma, raisin. Strong resiny taste over chocolate and coffee. Malty, creamy, woody bitter.

7 oz beer. Pours very dark. Smells of malty and pine. Taste is very malty with a substantial caramel sweetness and slight piney hop flavor.

Pours black with ruby highlights and a good khaki head with good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, molasses, coffee and some chocolate. Roasty taste with molasses and some licorice that fades into a semi sharp coffee bean bitterness with some dark chocolate. Oily mouthfeel and full bodied with medium carbonation. An above average stout that is flavorful but a bit harsh for my taste.

Rating Backlog #3. The ceramic bottle is interesting, but is maybe gives the impression that Rogue is trying a little too hard. This pours dark and thick with decent head. Milkshake like malty flavors abound. Solid overall beer. Bottle - Trappeze Pub - Athens, GA

750ml swing-top ceramic bottle, 2006 vintage. Pours a solid pitch black, with a brown head. Roasted, complex aroma, coffee, licorice, tobacco, caramel, ashes, molasses, tar. Sweet, full bodied, high bitterness, creamy CO2. Rich, velvety taste, coffee beans, chocolate, ash, violets, licorice, a touch of saltiness (!), tobacco. Powerful and complex, still very youthful at seven years old. Awsome! (2013-05-03)

Poured from a 750ml ceramic 2009 bottle. Notes of cardboard, sherry, prune, dark chocolate, coffee, some smoke. The alcohol was a bit on the hot side. Not bad.

Draft, Beer Temple, Amsterdam.
Pours dark as midnight with a creamy, foamy brown-beige head. Liquerice, tobacco, roasted grains and ash, burnt wood in the intensive aroma. Oily body with caramel, after some slip the profile goes to the dry side. Ash, hops and burnt wood in the aftertaste.

Black, opaque, light brown head. Deeply malty with dark bread crusts, toast, burnt sugar, licorice, roasted malts, cocoa, espresso, a little smoke, some tar-like notes, firm bitterness, warming alcohol. Very complex and tasty.
