COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

2012-2013 winter edition poured into a snifter. Pours a rich dark black with a finger of tan head that settles nicely with nice lacing. What an imperial stout should look like. Aroma is bakers chocolate, roasted malts, sweet cream, cocoa, and coffee. Taste is roasted malts and barley, semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, wood, vanilla, and rich milk chocolate. Mouthfeel is smooth and moderately sticky. It drinks like a 5% abv beer. This is a fantastic imperial stout.

Bottle at Junction in London. Pitch black pour with tan head. Chocolate aroma with a bit of licorice but not overpowering. Smells great for a stout like this. Taste is rich and bitter chocolate - roasted malts, hoppy bitterness, lots of chocolate and some coffee. Bitter finish. Doesn't taste like 10%. Palate is both bubbly and rich (not too thick though) - nice. Exceeds expectations - delicious stout.

330ml bottle poured in a chalice. A: Pours a deep black color with a thin dark beige almost brown head. Minimum retention and very few lacings left S: Smell is rich. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, candy, vanilla. Ended by grassy hops and alcohol T: Follows the nose. Roasted malts, hints of dark chocolate, coffee, yeasts, grassy hops. In overall a deliciously bitter beer. Very very tasty M: Full creamy body. Low carbonation. Dry bitter mouthfeel. Alcohol is quite evident. Aftertaste is grassy and earthy O: Brooklyn beers are usually good. This one is even better ;) [ BA Review @ 1/28/2012 ]

Great burst of flavor at first with the chocolate, but it is a harsh bite of alcohol. It finishes with bitter tastes of the cocoa bean unsweetened. The nibs if you will. Thick and rich. Deep black color.

Strong and sweet, like an Imperial Stout (which is what the label claims it to be) A winner - and a must-try if you like Imperials.

Bottled winter 2013-14. Black with a medium sized diminishing light brown head. Molasses, charcoal, bark, earthy coffee, cocoa, warming alcohol, some dried dark fruits, vanilla bean. Carries the abv well. Long finish with dark fruits. Rich without being heavy, sticky and sweet. Good.

i liked it quite a bit, but its not nearly my favorite imperial stout, or chocolate stout. it does however cover the abv incredibly well. id have guessed 8%. it also has a great balance of roasted malts and dry bittersweet chocolate. with the abv so well hidden, though, it also came across at juuuuuust a bit thin. very good - not quite in the uppermost tier, but another wishlist cross-off!"
