COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

Grande birra!

Decent unique tripel. Beautiful in color and overall appearance and aroma. Reminds me alot of white beer in flavor. I personally prefer several other tripels, and this is one i enjoy 1 but wouldnt drink more than 1 in a sitting. Overall a great beer but not my fav for sure.

Poured into a goblet out of a green 750ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a fluffy two finger white head. Excellent head retention as is appropriate for the style with some decent lacing. Very spicy aroma with lemon peel, coriander, and bread. Some honey and orange also sneaking in. Very nice. The flavor is loaded with orange and lemon peel along with more coriander. A very nice bready malt backbone and absolutely perfect for the style. Fluffy mouthfeel thanks to the abundant carbonation and a little sticky on the finish. Overall, an excellent Triple that hits every mark for the style. This is up there with the best as I can’t really find any flaws here.

0,33 bottle consumed in Kosovo. Very close to the expire date, not sure if it is in the best shape. Pours pale golden, slightly cloudy with a medium white head. Nose: long time I have not had one. Just WOW! Very floral, orange peel, semi-hidden yeast, Indian spices. Mouth: a bit flatter carbonation compared to a regular (young) tripel, less dry, more malts feel, spicy enough. Not the usual Karmeliet I remember but tasty.

Clear golden color, white head that lasts. Aroma of sweet grains, wheat, citrus zest, tangerine, very coriander forward but not in a harsh or bad way. Not much yeasty-esters. Flavor is sweet-ish but balanced by the high carbonation, some white fruits, honey, coriander again, citrus, malt sweetness, some floral notes too. Very nice and intense aroma all the way. Finish is dry-ish, so it’s got a nice drinkability, high to very high carbonation. Beautiful brew.

Pours a clear golden yellow with a lofty, loose white head. The smell is bread, toasted malt, yeast, spice, fruit. The taste is spice, year, fruit, bread ending dry and spicy. Medium in body with fairly active and coarse carbonation. Pretty tray stuff though of course the sweet side.

330ml Bottle in Blackfriars, Glasgow (£4.95):
This one was a really nice Belgian ale from the start, much as I’ve come to expect from beers hailing from the country. Tripel Karmeliet was quite a spicy offering with a very lively and well-carbonated feel to it that proved highly enjoyable and every drinkable. Whilst I wouldn’t rank it as one of my favourites in the style it was definitely one worth trying and proved to be a fairly good example of the style.

I might just be adding to the noise, but here’s my take on this. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy golden yellow to orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing arranging itself nicely around the glass. The smell had a nice blend of sweet iced apple with a light citrus bitterness and then a light clove to even things out a bit. The taste was mainly sweet but carried a nice crisp spice to it through the clove. There’s a slight sticky sweet aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but not overbearing. I say this was good. Overall, I say that this was a pretty good tripel that I would have again.
