Aroma is really big on tootsie roll, with a pleasant undercurrent of roasted peanuts alongside it. Further warming displays some toffee and a hint of vanilla. Freshly made peanut brittle as well. Flavors follow suit, with some of that tootsie roll character initially, but this is quickly edged out by the more dominant roasted peanut and caramel flavors. The chocolate returns on the finish, but it’s far more dry here, with a possible hint of smoke as well. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is borderline spritzy, but not enough to detract from the palate. This is quite a straightforward and simplistic beer, but it doesn’t need to be anything else, as it’s quite good in its current form, and is sessionable to boot. bp (487), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Palate has lots of malt presence. So much flavor to this one! Finishes crisp with some lingering malt aftertaste. Really well made. Definitely worth a try. ante (2977), Stockholm, Sweden

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Bottle 12oz. - Poured dark mahogany color with thin off white head.
Aroma - musty, damp basement mixed with leather and grape blowpop suckers.
Flavor - lightly sweet, tastes like grape blowpop and old woodsy oak.
Palate - medium bodied beer with slick texture. Carbonation is average and finish is dusty and has little aftertaste.
Overall - Awesome Scottish Ale!! I dig this style and this is done very well. Another bonus is this beer is 7.2% ABV. and tastes more like 4%! Pours a dark brown, with a slight head that continues to live on the glass. A hearty woody/hoppy aroma. A medium to heavy mouthy feel. A warm, slightly alcoholic finish. Roasted malt is quite evident but balance of hops serves this great offering well. cprochak (445), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
