COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The famous Bear Gates guarding the approach to Traquair House, near Pebbles, have been closed since 1745 - when the last person to pass through them was Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Now, 250 years later, the ancient Traquair Brew House celebrates the Jacobite cause by producing this potent spiced ale to a traditional fine recipe. Sip slowly and remember the old toast to the "King O'er the Water."

Bottle from LCBO. Pours a deep clear brown. Aroma is sweet malt, pepper, and coriander. Tastes of caramel, brown sugar, a hint of spiciness, a little alcohol, and has a lingering herbal bitterness. Aggressively carbonated, but not in a bad way. A very enjoyable beer.

Pours dark reddish brown (almost black) with a medium tan head. Aroma is sweet, fruity & spicy (maybe some licorice) - the malts are there too. Taste is rich, smooth.....some alcohol sweetness.....and something vegetal. Interesting beer. Very smooth. For me, it’s hard to pinpoint anything exact in the flavor. Good beer, however.

Not too sure about this one. On the one hand it’s very enjoyable, but there seems to be something missing, that could make it exceptional. Maybe it’s the fact that it doesn’t seem to know if it wants to be a quaffer or a sipper. Lots of berry fruits, some cinammon and other sweet spices and a very smooth body, perhaps to it’s disadvantage. Not terribly complex. An odd one to be sure.

Murky dark amber brown, small mocha head. Dark spiced malt aroma. Roasted sweet malt taste, some spice, caramel and dried fruit. Alcohol is well hidden. Moderately hopped, softly carbed. Sweet clean finish. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)

12 ounce bottle. A nicely spiced malty beer. I enjoy the fruity character of the coriander as it blends with the malts and yeast. It is very drinkable. A nice beer that is a bit of a treat.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2012 (33CL Bottle) This really was good , basically . Ive wanted to sample this awhile and no ant-climax here. Very sophisticated in character -its silky ,chocolatiness like a Rochefort and spicy angles =gosh this would get you jolly shitfaced with its soulful flavours .

Intéressant bouquet composé de figues, cassonade et mélasse provenant d’une magnifique robe bourgogne bien pétillante. Au goût c’est semblable au parfum avec une présence en bouche remarquablement soyeuse et un arrière goût malté persistant.
