UPDATED: JAN 17, 2013 Bottle. Appearance: black pour with foamy light brown (milk chocolate) head. Aroma: coffee, chocolate, nuts, roasted malt. Taste: bitter dark chocolate on front, with dark fruits in the middle, and ending with a nutty, bitter strong coffee flavor. Mouthfeel: thick and creamy with little carbonation. Overall: this is the perfect example of what I consider the basic standard of a seasonal imperial stout should be. Nothing over the top, which I can appreciate other times, but just plain well-brewed.

Had this in bottle, purchased online from Beer of Europe. Consumed at home, Saturday 20th September 2014 Black as yer’ at, grimping mire black with a tan head that is almost milkshakey, its lovely. So, so smooth, its soft and hugely indulgent, wonderful beer. Chocolate and creamy, really superb for a fairly easily obtainable beer, it really is like a wonderful creamy milkshake stout, love it, some lingering light coffee. Great beer. A8 A4 T9 P5 Ov18. 4.4

This is one of those beers that I’ve drank and continue to drink now, but never thought to rate. Incredibly cheap here in Oz, especially for an RIS, so there’s always a few bottles lying about.
Cellar temperature and into a snifter it goes. A year old bottle but fresh is the same. Used engine oil black, opaque and viscous with a scummy, tannish film atop just to complete the effect. Aroma of lanolin, peat, fresh strapped leather, molasses and liquorice root. The favour is remarkably nutty like roasted hazelnut and almond meal with a light touch of milk chocolate. Quite soft, oily, viscous yet overall lean with no hint of that ABV. Burnt wood and ash late, tobacco, vanillin, liquorice and molasses across the mid-palate with a mildly bitter malt peak in back. Chewy with a sweetness matched by mineral-like nuances. The length grows, tarrish, malty, roasted. This is a nice RIS but it does fall short of extraordinary. I love it, but it lacks the overall complexity of other Impys I have tried. Still, got to keep the stock on hand!! (12fl.Oz, no date stamp, 1st Choice Liquor, Willetton)

Pitch fucking black and a thin dark beige head. Chocolate and liquorice on the nose. Full body. Very smooth and soft, like silk. Starts by being sweet but slowly turns bitter and roasted still keeping a perfect balance. This is excellent. A master class beer.

Poured from bottle into snifter. Black/ dark brown pour with short brown quickly diminishing head. Heavy roasted malt and chocolate aromas. Taste has chocolate, roasted and sweet malts, and a slightly bitter coffee finish. Medium body, with creamy feel. Really solid imperial stout, especially for a "regular" beer. Pretty good flavor, well balanced, keeps well.

Bottle. Pitch black oily pour with a few millimeters of a beautiful beige head. Lots of dark chocolates and ground coffee, some vanilla fudge and light soy. Light char and even more chocolate in the finish. Wonderful and very well balanced!

Served on nitro-tap at Al’s of Hampden into a nonic pint.

A - Pours used motor oil black with a small film of khaki colored head, dissipating down to a spotty film, leaving thin rings of lacing down the glass.

S - Lots of flavor going on in this one but mostly coffee, chocolate, dark roasted malt, booze, and a tiny bit of vanilla. Not too over the top like others, just a solid Imperial Stout.

T - Lots of rich dark roasted coffee mixes well with the dark roasted malt and dulled chocolaty sweetness. The booze comes thru more and more as it begins to come to room temperature. Finish is very roasty with tons of it lingering long after the finish. Not too bad.

M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Lots of heavy roast in both the feel and the finish. Good overall balance but the booze crept in toward the end.

D - Pretty good. I enjoyed this one but the roast began to wear me down over the course of the glass. Still a very nice beer. Glad I finally got to try it.

Bottle from timderoeck. Many thanks! Oily syrupy texture. Pitch black colour, dark brown creamy foam. Soft carbonation. Very complex aroma of roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate, also dark fruit and berries. Perfect in balance: sweet and malty and also bitter and roasty. This is a fantastic imperial stout!

Deep and dark. As close to black as it gets, with a chocolate brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. Oily thick, balanced with a light carbonation. Malt and dark fruit aroma. Flavours are all in the sub-woofer bass end of the spectrum - spicy dark berries as in a Shiraz; bitter bark chocolate; heavy roasted malts; espresso coffee, dark soy sauce. Unyielding, like a black hole, with nothing lighter like milk or vanilla to take the edge off.

Bottle: jet black with a yellow brown head. Aroma of chocolate, malts, a little coffee. Sweet coffee flavors, burnt malts. Syrupy feel with a bitter aftertaste. Extremely tasty- full of flavor and a BIG beer.
