4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark beige head--perhaps the darkest one Iíve ever seen. Very thick. Leaves a coating of lace like a blanket on the glass. The liquor is nearly black.
Lots of chalky cocoa to the nose.
Dry, coffee flavors up front. Although it is potent at 10.5% abv, the alcohol warmth is missing--very deceptive. Thereís a touch of cream to this beer. The body is extremely rich, like light cream. The carbonation is low so it is exaggerated.
Itís too dry to be a dessert beer; itís too rich to be a regular brew. But it is a special beer, worth seeking out.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A - pours opaque cola with 1 finger tan head. S - very rich aromas of toasted malts, vanilla extract, molasses and dark chocolate dominate. Notes of toffee, espresso, and vegetal malts as well. Medium bodied with average carb. Nice full palate with more complexity than I expected. Slippery mf with a dry end. T - the tastes don't quite meet up with the nose. The front is tangy cacao and vegetal malts. The palate is espresso, burnt malts, dark chocolate, dark karo syrup, molasses. The end is dry bitter grasses and charred oak. Light notes of coal, mineral water an astringent in there as well. O - a nice imperial stout, though nowhere near the level of cbs.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thick Thick oil black pour. Dark tan head, but faded fast. Aroma Is alcohol, toasted malt, coffee. Taste is more of the same. Alcohol is strong. Flat and thick feel. A nice beer, tasting side by side with founders breakfast stout. The breakfast is much better, but that doesnít mean this isnít really good too.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thick, black and big. This is what an imperial stout should be! Just a hint of a tan head. Dark malt and molasses nose. Heavy body. Taste has a lot of roasted malt flavor to it, burnt bitter chocolate, a little heat in the finish.

Very balanced. Looking forward to tasting it after another year. Like the way the chocolate is more of a hint.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Gloppy black oil. Nice body. My sort of Imperial stout here- solid body, mildly toasty, not too sweet or bitter. Reminiscent of old Rasputin but maybe even more drinkable. Surprised how much I loved this one. Great beer.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a velvety dark brown with a thick dark brown head. Smells of chocolate, toast, dark breads. Taste is sweet and bitter - chocolate toasty malts, strong floral hops follow.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Pours thick black molasses. Aroma of cocoa, roasted peat, coffee, vanilla. Taste is complex and amazing, everything in the nose is there plus dark fruits and earthy hops. Full bodied and long lasting flavor. This is an amazing stout, a must try.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Poured the beer, thick like molasses and oh so dark black in color, into a snifter around 55-60 degrees. Everything quickly got better as the beer approached room temperature. Beautiful mocha colored 1/2inch thick head that did quickly retreat with some lacing. Aroma was quick alluring with hints of chocolate, toffee, maybe roast, and some hints of vanilla. Taste was to die for; coffee, fudge, bittersweet chocolate, and fruits. Thick and smooth with a velvet creamy mouthfeel on the palate. Founders, again, has impressed me with one of their brews. Truly one of the best imperial stouts out there in my opinion. Highly recommend this one!

12oz bottle - Pours a very dark black/brown in color with almost no head or carbonation. Aroma is of bitter dark malts and very dark chocolate. Flavor is heavy on the chocolate and slightly sweet, in spite of the lingering bitterness from the hops (or astringency from the dark malt). Awesome beer..
