Of all the beers in the world that I have tased, I have never before given one a perfect score. This brew has made me a believer... and IT’S FROM A CAN!?!? The most satisfying, balanced, rich and flavorful beer in the world (so far). Obviously, one should be a Porter fan to fully appreciate this brew. If you’re a Belgian or Lager fan, dont waste your time, this is not for you.

Can - Toasted coconut nose with bittersweet chocolate notes. Opaque black with tan long lasting head. Think Bounty chocolate bar in a can. Creamy mouthfeel and a great tasty out of the ordinary porter.

A great concept. Create a decent porter with nice chocolate and toffee notes, add toasted coconut and viola- a classic beach beer. Not syrupy at all, but a full mouthfeel and great flavor. Pretty pour with a tannish, lasting head. Helps if your feet are in the sand while inbibing this treat.

Deep chocolate colour with a good collar of mocha coloured head. The aromas from the get go (Ie. straight out of the fridge and into a glass) are of charry roast barley and even coconut grated, dried and thrown in. This isn’t silly, I might try it myself. This beer isn’t pungent, more fragrant. It’s aromas are subtle but inviting. The flavour smacks heavily of the coconut and to be fair, this works really, really well. It is slightly creamy in flavour and reminds me of so many Thai green curries I have had (Not a bad match that, must try later). This may be a one trick pony, but it works so well. The finish just gets creamier and more mellow as it sits. It hasn’t the longest endurance of any stout I have tried, but this beer is a must try and one I’ll be having a crack at to brew myself.

Poured into a bruery tulip. Black with a thin tan head that quickly dissipates into a ring around my glass. Aroma of smokey malts coffee and some vanilla notes. Taste is more subdued than the nose, the smoke is there, very light coconut notes and finishes with coffee. Mouthfeel is smooth but maybe a little over carbonated. Pretty good, I was hoping for more coconut but it’s not a bad all around porter
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Daytonbeer (251) - Ohio, USA - MAY 21, 2012
Pours almost opague black with tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and faint coconut. Taste is outstanding. Dark chocolate, soy sauce, toffee, and coconut. My favorite Hawaiian beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 larsga (4663) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 19, 2012
Small beige head. Nearly opaque black body. Intense milky chocolate aroma with coconut, earth, and vanilla notes. Dry, and faintly acidic, roasty chocolatey taste with earthy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, mealy mouthfeel. Dry-acidic chocolate and coconut aftertaste with perfumy burnt notes. Well, not bad, but too dense and perfumy. (0.33l can at Håndverkerstuene, Oslo.)

Can. Pours a very dark brown with medium beige head. The aroma is a roasted malt and cococnut. Medium mouthfeel with a smokey malt and strong coconut flavor. Easy to drink a very good porter from Maui.

On tap @ Maui Brewing. Poured an espresso color into a pint glass with a large khaki colored head. Aromas of coconut and toffee fill the general area surrounding the glass. First sip provides an unexpected smoothness with just the right amount of toasted coconut in each sip. A little bit of smokey/roasted malt balance the coconut, which lingers nicely in the mouth. Truly enjoyable porter, which I could drink all day long on a Maui beach or a chilly day on the east coast.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheAlum (3299) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - APR 29, 2012
Can shared at Dark Lord Day 2012 (Munster, IN). Pours a rich blackish brown pour, glowing reddish brown copper bottom and edges. Good haze, frothy tannish head stays as a small layer, laces ok overall. Aromas are coconut and toast, touches of cocoa, caramel, toast. Some more cocoa, gentle coconut milk, biscuits. Some cocoa, toffee, and mellow coffee roast. Initial is toasty and roasty, touches of bitter chocolate, some coconut, and toffee. Caramel, toast, and bakers cocoa. Middle shows a touch of sweetness, coconut more toasty and lingering as it coats the palate more. Backend is lingering roast, toast, and cocoa. Coconut element remains. Quite drinkable but lower on complexity. Solid.
