4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 smooch (238) - Sylvania, USA - DEC 19, 2009
UPDATED: JAN 4, 2010 20 yr anniversary vintage tasted - this may be one of the best beers that I have ever tasted. I’m not sure beer gets much better than this. At only 6.99 a bottle here, it is unbelieveable value compared to some of the other expensive brews out there. It has a superior balance. More beers should be like this.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Atheist_Peace (515) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - APR 17, 2012
341ml bottle. 2011 vintage. Darkish amber pour with light tan head that leaves a touch of lace. Very sweet/malty on the nose with horse blanket aplenty and a hint of something fruity. High sweetness on the palate with lots of heat. A little cloying. I’m not the biggest barley wine fan but this one really misses the mark for me, and will almost certainly improve with a year or two in the cellar.

2009 vintage sampled in 2012. Tastes like a Belgian strong ale with minimal carbonation. Notes of caramel and raisin with mild floral hops. Mild bitterness and sweetness. Good stuff.

2009 vintage bottle at Dayton Ale Feast. Really silky smooth barley wine with a full mouthfeel. Slightly sweet but not sticky. This would be nice in front of a roaring fire watching it snow. Well made.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Fred182 (32) - valleyfield, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 29, 2012
Arome de houblon, petits fruits et caramel. Belle apparence rougeâtre surmonté d’un collet blanc mousseux. Goût amère de fruits caramelisés et d’alcool. Bonne carbonatation. Barley Wine très bien réussi.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 UM02 (209) - Quebec, CANADA - FEB 25, 2012
2011 edition. Somewhat mild tasting strong ale with a deep roasty malt, some oak presence and a slight hop bitterness. Quite nice but doesn’t quite live up to the vintage/special beer like their Russian Imperial Stout. Possibly would improve with some aging
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Skvader (91) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 21, 2012
2011 bottle. An amber coloured beer with a caramelly aroma. Taste has some hoppy notes, along with scotch, almond, caramel, and hazelnut. A good barley wine. Good hopes for the 2007 bottle I will try after..

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 patricks110 (914) - Alberta, CANADA - JAN 11, 2012
This is a great Barley Wine. Going to age my other bottle for a year or two. The pour is a nice and bright amber body with a thin yellowish head. An intensely malted nose with big biscuit and toffee malts and a nice hop presence. Noticing the boose on the nose as well. The taste is sweet and well malted with toffee and fruit notes. A mild hop on the finish with light resin and a prevalent alcohol on the finish. Overall, an intense brew with awesome toffee sweet Malts.
