4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 6, 2012 Huge beer. Pours almost black with a medium head. It pours with a thicknessin to the glass. The nose is big with alcohol and a sweetness that is hard to describe. There is also some vanilla. The taste is great. Again the beer has a uniqueness that probably comes from the barrel aging. Almost a cough drop taste. Chocolate and some licorice also are blended in. Long finish, I’m glad i have 3 bottles left.
Re-tasted on 9/5/12 - The beer has changed since my last taste. This one almost had a Mounds candy bar taste, like it was melted into the glass. I really enjoyed it.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Brewster’s bar at four points sheraton, Los Angeles. Black oil, minimum head. Aroma is big bourbon character on the nose. Taste is very winey (rich dark fruits without tang) alongside bourbon. Almost spirit like. Lots in the mix here. Bourbon is very present though. Fruitiness gives the beer a pudding quality like no other stout I’ve had. Soft to moderate carbonation. Not a chewy body. Sweetness on finish without being sticky. Finish - mild roast bitterness. Barrel plays major role here. Like a super charged Hargreaves Hill double barrel stout or cockswains but with more going on. Maybe a little too sweet and syrupy for me. Wish it was also a bit more full bodied as feel rich flavours would benefit even more from this.

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Superb and one of the best imperial stouts I’ve had. Pitch black with a thin bronze head. Aroma of roasted malts, bourbon, oak and hops. It smelled rich. Oily and full palate without being like syrup. An explosion of balanced and rich flavors. Along with the aromas there was some vanilla and coffee.
Maybe chocolate. So much going on and it went too quickly.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
750ml bottle given to me by ck1, and cellar aged more than 18 months - served at cellar temperature and shared on Thousandth Night with ck1 and Jan. Number 1001! Pours an opaque black with a brown head leaving almost no lace. Aroma has vanilla, grapes and dark chocolate with some caramel showing up. Rich and decadent. Taste is of bakers chocolate, bourbon, heavy roast and grapes on a heavy caramel malt base. Full bodied and super smooth - even smoother than Barrel Aged Rasputin - with alcohol. Finishes smoothly bitter and sweet, with chocolate and roast ... and vanilla-y bourbon. This was a terrific, terrific brew! Easy to see as the base of the FW anniversary ales.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Aggressive and bold bourbon notes in the aroma, deep chocolate that presents strong as well. The flavor is like silky dark chocolates, smooth and awesome.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Refrigerated 2012 brown bomber poured into a snifter. Pours black with dark brown highlights. Aroma is big bourbon, medium/thick body, medium carbonation, and some thin small bubble lacing. Taste is intense bourbon, roasted malt, oak, some dark chocolate, some vanilla, balancing hop backbone, and slightly bitter slightly dry finish. Very good imperial stout.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled from a big bottle at the Grand Tasting at the RBNG-event at Fredrik 3.’s Hall. Low, tan-coloured head. Devil-black body. Mid-sweet dark malty nose with hints of bourbon. More bourbon to the taste buds joined by vanilla and caramel balanced by a nice half-dry, bitter finish. Oily palate. Velvety mouthfeel. Excellent sipper (Fredriksten festning, Halden 15.02.2014).

From a shared 65cl bottle at RBNG-14. Pours very dark, close to black, with an off-white head. Lovely wooden aromas, vanilla, dark malts, chocolate and caramel. Sweet and smooth as hell with a slightly dry and lightly bitter finish. Delicious stuff!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Near black body, under a thin layer of tan cream head. Intense and rich malt aroma resembling burnt caramel/brown sugar, dark chocolate, burnt wood, bourbon and dark dried fruits. Thick and mouth-coating. Full body. Taste mirrors the aroma. Big and flavorfull malt base with balancing bittering hops, and a pleasant alcohol warmth in the finish. A great and complex IS.
