COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Bottle shared with McTapps. What a complex beauty ! Usually I am a bit sceptic with beers brewed to that high alc but this one is just delicious. Sweety with different aromas of caramel, honey, banana and nuts. A beer that fits well in comes autumn. Great one. Surprisingly great.

Extremely sweet. Lots of honey. Doesnt resemble beertaste at all. Tastes more like mead. Dont drink this one alone. Needs to be shared.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 11.2oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 14% abv. Appearance: This one has a deep mahogany color with a light haze and a little yeast sediment. It raises a small quick fading fading light tan head. At 14% I don’t expect it to have much head or lacing. Smell: It has a full nose of sweet candy like fruity notes. Apples, plums, figs and red pears covered in sugar and soaked in spiced rum jump out at me. Taste / Palate: This one leads with big sweet maltiness packed with notes of candied fruit and boozy cake. The finish is warm and boozy in a good way. Hops are set way off in the background but still add a little spice to the overall character. The palate feels big full and a little syrup like with light carbonation.

33cl bottle. Pours clear reddish amber with almost no head. Strong sweet Aroma with caramel, molasses, raisins, cherry, booze. Taste is similar with strong sweet flavors and some fruitiness again. Medium to full body, sticky mouthfeel, low carbonation. Extreme doppelbock, a bit too much on the sweet side without some roastiness to balance it.

Bottle - Vintage 2001 - Lots of cocoa and dark raisin with molasses. Deep maroon with a decent white head. Lots of sweet date, prune with a long finish. Some odd dirty notes.

[Ölprovning hos Fredrik i Ängelholm 7 Maj 2015] Lagrad väldigt länge, gått ut indefinit. Bättre än den färska. Hel del sötma, viss bekosta, mörk frukt, russin

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 9A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L415515. AROMA: very nice sweet malty aroma with notes of toasty and bread crust. slight caramel notes and no hop aroma. spicy and soft alcohol aroma. APPEARANCE: dark ambar color with orange highlights and translucent. tanned thin head with low retention due to high alcohol content. TASTE: clean lager flavour with very sweet and rich notes of malt and dark dried fruits (raisins). some bread crust notes. low bitterness with a sweet finish. PALATE: full body with a velvety texture. moderate-low carbonation. Alcohol warmth present. OVERALL: a doppelbock a bit more on the sweet (and strong) side.

Bottle (shared by suurjuust, thanks!). Pours copper with beige head. Aroma is sweet, malt, caramel. Flavor follows the nose. Finish is sweet and dry bitter with some alcohol. Alcohol is rather well covered considering ABV. Overall: ok.

2014 Bottle at Bierstube. Poured a deep clear ruby brown. No head. Feels like a Brandy. Rich malty dark red fruit. Dark chocolate cherry cordials. Plums and prunes. Toffee caramels. Refined burnt sugar cane. Merlot. Feels big but not harsh and boozy - though the alcohol will hit you afterwards. Maybe a bit too syrupy and precious, but something worth savoring.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2015 330ml bottle. Nutty brown colour, very little head. Sweet nose, taste is caramel, alcohol, a little sickly perhaps. Ok but didn?t quite live up to the hype.
