Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Bottle enjoyed on New Year’s Eve 2008. Poured a jet black color with a small brown head that left nice swirls on the top of the beer. The aroma consisted of dark, bitter chocolate, coffee, dark fruit and sweet malts. The taste was extremely complex with rich chocolate notes, coffee hints, and sweet malts. It had a very enjoyable bitter taste to it. I also could not help but notice the nice lacing on the side of my glass. While I was drinking it, I kept thinking of FFF Dark Lord. Any beer that reminds me of that gem gets a thumbs up in my book!

Bottle from Choice Beverages in McKinney. Pours black with a medium tan head. The aromas are chocolate, roasted coffee, licorice. The mouthfeel is dry bitter and has a slightly sweetness to it with a chocoalty ending. This was an absolutely great beer! Cheers!

¡¡¡Sorprendente!!!

Poured a little lighter than I thought. Beautiful, smooth stout with nice, mellow coffee notes. One of my new favorites.

Great stout with the alcohol not taking over all the taste. Nice bitterness and sweet taste, maybe a little too sweet for my taste. Nice balance, but a little much towards the sweet side.

Smells super hoppy, almost like ammonia. Taste is shocking! Chocolate, agave, molasses, grains, cream, bit of honey, some hops toward the finish, very good...

Bottle 37,5 cl. Pours black in color with a creamy beige head. Roasted notes, some licorice, roasted coffee and peppery spicy notes in aroma. Sweet chocolate cake in taste, some strong coffee and bit of burnt brown sugar in flavor. Pretty nice flavor, even if it feels quite sweet from time to time. Rich mouthfeel though, roasted notes and some dark bitter chocolate in aftertaste and long-lasting roasted notes of coffee. A bit of cardamom spicyness and slight burning warmth in finish.

Black as expected. Aroma is bitter hops. Taste is inky syrup, hops, roastiness and mild bitterness. Overall, a very nice imperial stout. Definitely different to the norm. Maybe not as well integrated as other great imperial stouts, but very good.
