COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
(First tapping every first Thursday of October) A smoked bock beer for Bamberg’s strong beer season (October through December). Matured for months in ancient rock-cellars underneath Bamberg and tapped freshly from the oakwood cask. Similar to, but much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.

Pours a dull chestnut color with an inch or so of khaki head. Oh, the aroma. Holy smokes! Pun intended, of course. Very smokey and sweet aroma tickles the nostrils in a way that makes say "Oh, that’s nice." Woody, campfire smoke mixed with caramel and brown sugar wafts so gracefully from my mug I can practically see it. If campfires smelled so good I’d find myself sleeping on dirt in a tent thrice a week. The flavor is much more subtle than the nose. Slightly dry, nutty, and smokey with no more than a wisp of noble hops to say Auf Wiedersehen! as the sip embarks on a perilous journey down your throat. The palate is robust yet quaffable, rating a perfect 10 on the Goldilocks scale of alcohol content vs. drinkability. Without resigning myself to hyperbole, I must unequivocally state that this is the most perfect beer ever crafted by humans or outer space aliens.

From a bottle at 28 Springs. Pours a rush dark brown with one finger of tan head. Aroma is smokey burnt slight malt. Flavor has caramel and smokey peaty malt. I'm not a fan of the style but this was still nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Honestly my first Rauchbier and I genuinely enjoyed it. The aroma is rich smoke with hints of pork fat and coffee. The flavor follows but is milder than expected. The mouthfeel and finish were both softer and more creamy than I anticipated.

Bouteille.

Chic.

Pour dark amber with large off-white head. Aroma is rich wood smoke and a bit of sugar. Mouth-feel is light and creamy. Taste is blast of smoky sweet malt and bitter chocolate. Very different but it grew on me with each sip. At the finish, the smoke cleared and left a pleasant roasty sweetness. Marvelous!

Bottle. Purple cola. Campfire smoky aroma. The taste follows suit and really emphasizes the smoke, adding bacon. This is a big huge brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Taster at Aces and Ales. Pours mahoghany with an off white head. Smells like a forest fire, very smoky, charred. Taste starts with watery caramel that is quickly overrun by tons of smoke. Liquid bbq.

2011 backlog. Pours clear dark brown with a2 finger off white head that left nice lacing. The nose is roasted malt, ham, caramel and bacon. The taste is not as smoky as the nose surprisingly. Dark fruits, light roast, smoked meat. Medium mouth feel. Tasty. 3.8

Couleur cuivrée sombre , très belle mousse blanche. Super nez fumé boisé , et malt grillé. Gout malt grillé avec super fin de fumé boisé, notes douces sucrées. Super balancée. Bien douce en bouche. Super! top smoked!

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Vova. Very dark brown and a little clear. nutty, fully hickory smoke aroma, smooth, smoky, sweetish taste. Smooth, hardly any carbonation, full body and hints of bitterness in the finish.
