5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Pours a dull chestnut color with an inch or so of khaki head. Oh, the aroma. Holy smokes! Pun intended, of course. Very smokey and sweet aroma tickles the nostrils in a way that makes say "Oh, that’s nice." Woody, campfire smoke mixed with caramel and brown sugar wafts so gracefully from my mug I can practically see it. If campfires smelled so good I’d find myself sleeping on dirt in a tent thrice a week. The flavor is much more subtle than the nose. Slightly dry, nutty, and smokey with no more than a wisp of noble hops to say Auf Wiedersehen! as the sip embarks on a perilous journey down your throat. The palate is robust yet quaffable, rating a perfect 10 on the Goldilocks scale of alcohol content vs. drinkability. Without resigning myself to hyperbole, I must unequivocally state that this is the most perfect beer ever crafted by humans or outer space aliens.

bottle, 0,5lt. Found at Valentin - Curious Bierkneipe, Volos
Well comparatively to Maerzen, this double it all - but overall not.
The aroma is a heavy smoked beer, appearance darker as the Maerzen. The taste kills everyhting else - SMOKE AND BACON. It’s a powerfull experience, but that’s why it looses overall, you could not get more than 2 of it and even with heavy food it will top it at least. A really thick body feeling. Really BOCK for the Winter season.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 22B). Bottle 50 cl - Batch LVP. AROMA: intense smoked aroma of burned wood and coal. sweet caramelized malt on the background but overpowered by the smoked aroma. clean lager profile. APPEARANCE: dark ruby color and translucent. average ivory head with average retention. TASTE: slight caramelized and sweet malt flavour with a prominent burnt wood character. faint toasted bread. medium-low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. no hop flavour. PALATE: medium body with average carbonation. no astringency. OVERALL: a nice smoked bock, a bit unbalanced on the aroma but good on the flavour.

Barwa: ciemnomiedziana, klarowna.
Piana: obfita, kremowa, drobnopęcherzykowa, szybko opada.
Zapach: intensywna wędzonka, lekkie melanoidyny, ciemne owoce, przypieczona bułka maślana.
Smak: również intensywna wędzonka z nutami melanoidyn o charakterze pieczonej bułki maślanej. Piwo o solidnej pełni słodowej z wyraźną goryczką. W połączeniu z wędzonką sprawia wrażenie lekko palone.
Wysycenie: delikatnie za wysokie.

500 ml bottle from bier-deluxe.de
Very dark copper body, with a big, lacing, creamy, beige head.
Aroma mainly of bacon, wood, caramel.
Surprisingly complex taste of bacon, smoky wood, caramel, honey, tea, grains, subtle zesty hops.
Medium, quite oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes smoky, dry, wooden, grains, but also with bitter hops again.
Really tasty! The flavour is pretty surprising, much more complex than I expected. Not only various smoke notes, but also different sweet and dark malts and some hops, all in a perfect balance. Definitely the best Rauchbier I’ve had so far, precisely because this isn’t just all about the smoke.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Keg at the Rake. It pours clear deep ruby with a s beige head. The nose is sweet, juicy, rich smoke, dark caramel, smoked bacon, and cured meats. The taste is crisp, bitter-sweet, rich smoke, cured ham, bonfire, toasty brown sugar, wood, light vanilla, earth, bacon frazzled and honeyed cereal with a smooth, smoked finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. I doubt smoke beers get much better than this. Flavoursome, yet drinkable. Good depth for the style.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rich Brown pour. Aroma is big meaty bbq. Taste the same with big malt body. Bit too much for me! Better than the marzen with some nice smokey sweetness coming through.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Smell of smoked ham, coal. Bitter taste, balanced out by a solid malty backbone, smoked nuances, slightly alcoholic. I liked their Märzen more, to be honest...

0.5l 06/2015. Pours a bright, dark, ruby brown with a creamy tan head which lasted well and left some excellent lacing. Aroma of smoked bacon and charred wood. Medium sweetness and lots of different smoky flavours. Medium full body. Smooth texture. It was like drinking a packet of ’Cheese & Bacon Ball’ which I found quite off putting initially but quite enjoyable by the end. 8.
