| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 25, 2009 Bottle: Dark near opaque pour with a khaki film. The aroma is rich and rounded with some chocolate and toasted vanilla bean (not sweet) with a nice dry black malt character giving off mild licorice and coffee resins. Some Northwest hop vegetal character as well. Light in texture- a bit too much carbonation for this style. Rich yet dry. Some salty black malt character with a licorice note as well and some chocolate to round it out. The maltose is balanced by a resiny coffee-rind roast and a Northwest spicy presence as well. Long roasted coffeeish and resiny finish. Not bad- just quite simple and one dimensional. radiomgb (2076), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada

Finishes long, roasty, bitter.
Nicely done, good roast and chocolate, good balance.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 14, 2009 THis was a good stout. It didn’t knock my socks off, but it held its own. It dark, smooth, and easy to drink. It didn’t have the coffee notes I was hoping to find. I don’t think I would search out this one, but I’m glad I tried it. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 27, 2009 The nose is only so-so, I get a whiff of the espresso but I’m not dying to drink it. Fortunately, the taste is very, very good, with overwhelming coffee notes not quite on the level of Peche Mortel but very tasty nonetheless. For the price, it’s hard to find a much better beer; a surprisingly delicious offering. ROGUE (712), Newark, Delaware, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2009 22oz bottle (batch 08-0410). Poured a rich clear black color with a huge and long lasting tan head. Smells of caramel with hints of coffee and a bit of roasted malt. The flavor is big and coffee infused with lots of bitterness that is just off set by a touch of chocolate sweetness. Very roasty and toasty. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. Afine coffee stout.
