4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Stevesie (210) - - JAN 22, 2013From old notes. Bottle. Fresh, hoppy nose with some toasted grains. Gorgeous amber pour with creamy off-white head. Lots of hops, mildly bitter with a nice, long finish. Almost perfect.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 HopScripts (20) - Appleton, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 15, 2013
Good smell and color head remained fairly constant. Body was a little bit basic but taste was very complex. Of this beer had balance it would move into the top class of IPA's.

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Lupulucid (29) - - JUN 6, 2013
Huge hop expression remains unencumbered by malt to the degree that many DIPA’s do. Balance exists but myself hops outpace malt in an appealing way.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JCB (3859) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAY 21, 2013
12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Avery kinda gets lost in the shuffle these days, but their offerings range from solid to very good. Count this IPA in the former category, but that’s not a huge knock. Bright gleaming amber pour with a medium head. Nose is floral and a bit bitter without being overwhelmingly pungent. Balanced flavors with solid malts to give some shape to the citrus and pine. Well done but there’s simply an avalanche of IPAs out there.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Doofgoblin (145) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 19, 2013
Pours a nice light amber with a golden hue. Aroma is grassy, scallions, pine, with a faint citrusy grapefruit. The scallion (like) aroma is not my favorite part. Taste is citrusy, nice malt undertone, piney, and grassy. Finish is clean and really crisp with a biting bitterness. I could certainly go for one of these with some Thai food!
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ACHops (296) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 13, 2013
On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours heavily clouded golden orange with thin head. Aroma is fresh herby hops. Taste is mild caramel malt and bitter punchy hops. Notes of fresh cut grass, pine, and a hint of grapefruit. Balanced, and pretty mild as IPAs go. Finishes quite bitter. Not bad, but nothing that would make me seek this out again.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bartlebier (523) - Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - MAY 12, 2013
12oz can, BB 06.2014. Thanks Allen! - Appropriately enjoyed after a concert by CO-based microtonal guitar composer Neil Haverstick. - Pours a meticulously clean and clear golden orange with perfect head, with a lean palate to match. This could truly be considered to be a textbook old-school IPA, with all standard floral, zesty and resinous hops in confident harmony (particularly palate-numbers like Columbus and Centennial are wisely dosed) and a crisp malt base just substantial enough to transport the concomitant IBUs and style-appropriate ABVs. My ideal IPA has a slightly more cloudy look and creamy mouthfeel to it, but this one checks all boxes with expert balance and is an efficient reminder of how staisfying an original IPA can taste when having had a few too many new-fangled EU IPAs and overzealous US I/DIPAs.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Garbageman (368) - Lexington, South Carolina, USA - MAY 6, 2013
From tap. Pours a golden orange in color with nice white head and wonderful lacing. The aroma is on point for a floral IPA. All grapefruit, citrus and grassy notes. Very fresh. Taste is balanced with a decent malt backbone and a crisp bitter finish.
