This titanic, immensely viscous stout is loaded with inimitable flavors of chocolate-covered caramel and coffee and hide a hefty 98 IBUs underneath the smooth blanket of malt. Ten FIDY (10.5% ABV) is made with enormous amounts of two-row malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. Ten FIDY is the ultimate celebration of dark malts and boundary-stretching beer.

Poured into the glass it is super dark with a large brown head. The aroma is boozy with malts and chocolate. Can’t wait for the taste and it all starts with chocolate which dominates up front. There is malts with a touch of coffee and some molasses. Great finish. Will definitely enjoy this one again.

Can from my Secret Santa rouhlas, thanks! Pours dark dark black, completely brown foam and a lot of it. Is coming down slowly. Looks viscous and slow-moving, like a glass of tar. Aroma is just a celebration for dark malts, deep, chocolaty and coffee flavours, vinous dark fruits, a bit of fig. Taste is explosive, full bodied blast of dark bitter chocolate and breakfast coffee. This coffee is not added but coming from the malts. Flows slowly around the mouth and hop bitterness is there, adding some more character to roast malts. Viscosity means also a lot of residual sweetness - but this is nicely balanced with the hop bitterness. Aftertaste is dry and has some lingering dark plums, liquor-soaked dark plums. Wanted to have a warming beer to celebrate the end of a long day of flying and this one really hits the spot.

Type: 12-oz. can Glass: AleSmith Barrel-Aged Reserve snifter glass From: Bine & Vine Bottle Shop in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif. Price: $4.99 Purchased: Jan. 13, 2016 Consumed: Jan. 24, 2016 Misc.: Canned on Sept. 22, 2015 at 11:07 a.m. MT I’d been looking forward to reviewing this for a long time. I had it in September 2014 out in North Carolina, but did not review it then. It’s good to see Ten Fidy out there instead of just the main Dale Pale’s Pale Ale, Old Chub, Mama’s Little Yella Pils, etc. A bit pricy for a can, but this was a must have. Poured a black oil color with two fingers of dark tan, rocky head, which thinned out fairly quickly. Good amount of spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. Below average retention. (Sight - 4.00) Smelled chocolate, boozy licorice, caramel syrup, Jägermeister, roasted toffee, dark cocoa powder and chocolate syrup. (Smell - 4.50) Taste follows the nose, although maybe not quite as good. Got boozy milk chocolate up front, followed by bitter smoky licorice, caramel syrup, dry roasted molasses, herbal hops, chocolate cake, some char wood and dark fruit. (Taste - 4.25) Full body. Chewy, thick texture. Average carbonation. Long, warming finish. (Feel - 4.25) This was even better than I remembered it. Looking forward to eventually trying some of the variants. (Overall - 4.25) 4.30 96 A

Drank from a 12 ounce can. At 10.5 % ABV I can barely taste the alcohol. Pours extremely dark with a beautiful copper colored head. Smooth. Quite possibly the best RIS that I have ever tasted. I WILL be buying more of this!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured like syrup from a 12 oz can. Dense, caramel head black color. Malty goodness not a strong alcohol taste. Smooth for such high abv. Nice heavy thick palate. Malty but not overly chocolate, a nice balanced malt profile ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wow, what a great stout. The mouthfeel is unreal. There’s a silky smooth milkiness that stays with you the whole time. There is obviously sweetness to a brew like this, but I found it to be remarkably restrained for something over 10%. The deep and hearty roasted mocha/coffee bean flavor is very pronounced.....which is what you want in a big stout. The 10.5% abv, in my opinion, is well hidden, and never lends a heat or an undue sweetness to the beer. An excellent Imperial stout.

Puts hair on your chest beer. Scent is deep roasted walnuts and barley with whiskey and leather. Spiced and charcoal are present but so faint you have to wait to find them. Black as night color with rich brown head. Thick harsh mouth feel that lingers. Tap

Smells like tobacco and tastes the same. Not a stout fan but this is pretty off the charts odd for my taste buds. Back to IPA's I will go. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
