4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
This is the Wild Turkey whiskey barrel aged Ten FIDY poured up at the brewpub on tap with an aged motor oil darkness with a mocha head that leaves behind full on sheet lacing. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts and fudge brownie and chocolate. The taste is rich creamy heaven, what more do you need to know. OK, I get fudge brownie that employs European silky rich fatty butter yumminess, sweet smooth whiskey and dark roasted to near burnt malts. This is sweet smooth booze that picks up more dark roasted malts and a pleasing chocolate note into the finish. Holy cow! Simply amazing poetry being written here as the barrel aging only adds to the amazing base beer rather than smother it like so many other brews out there. This is holy hell good. I gotta sit down . . .

Wow, a supreme beer, the whiskey aroma is intense, but a glassful of complex flavours mellows the taste. A luxurious, world class beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at BA. Pours thick, black, completely opaque, with creamy mocha head that slowly dissipates to a thin layer of fine bubbles. Aroma: this has all the hallmarks of a big, beautiful barrel-aged stout. Vanilla is first in the door, accompanied by whiskey, chocolate, dark fruits. Smells like this is going to be sticky-sweet and delicious. And boozy. Taste: chocolate, roast, big alcohol presence. More roast bitterness initially than I expected, but gives way to a really nice blend. Everything a BA imp stout should be in taste as well it seems. Big sweetness tempered by big bitterness, with a somewhat dry but lasting finish. Bitterness borders on being astringent the longer I drink this, which is the only knock against it. Full body, thick, rich, velvet texture, average to high carbonation. Lots of warming alcohol in the end. Overall: this is exceptional. In a beer world full of barrel aged imperial stouts that are inherently likeable, even when they’re mediocre, this one does it all right and really stands out.
