COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Seems hard to believe that we’ve been making Old Rasputin for 10 years now, but that’s what’s happened. And, to celebrate the occasion, we’ve brewed a special small batch that’s been aged for 9 months in some 12 year-old bourbon barrels. It’s bottled in 500 ml bottles with a cork and wired finish and a special commemorative label ---- and it’s amazing. The depth, intensity and complexity of the flavor profile make it a worthy tribute to this fine beer.

(500mL bottle) An opaque black body with a big brown head. Aroma of deep roasted malt, medium coffee, dark chocolate, wood, bourbon and notes of pine. Medium body, slightly oily texture, medium carbonation. Strong alcohol flavor; bitter dark chocolate, bourbon, strong wood character; a nice acidity brightens it up a bit on the way back and keeps the dark roast and alcohol from being over powerful; bitter finish; a lot of heat. Best to sip slowly.

Bottle of Rasputin XII. Pours pretty dark but not as much as i would have thought. Very creamy tan head. Looks amazing. Sweet aroma with very strong notes of bourbon, licorice, and maybe some molasses. WOW...so many different flavors going on with such an incredible smooth mouthfeel. subtle bourbon, dark fruit, butterscotch notes and the finish is a little chocolatety. Incredible beer well worth aging.

Envahi par le whiskey, elle souffre de ce manque d’équilibre. Une bouteille à partager absolument, l’alcool un peu trop présent, le chocolat et l’espresso peine à s’exprimer.

Bottle at hallinghansen grand tasting. Pours pitch black with a fluffy beige head. The aroma is sweet bourbon, vanilla, oak, hard roasted malt, chocolate and some coffee. The flavour is quite roasted with notes of chocolate, sweet caramel, vanilla and oak. Long roasted finish. Very nice.

pours plasma TV black, small head, nano CO2 foam, ringed retention, sticky lacing. Light coffee malts on the nose. Delightfully creamy at the start, medium thick viscosity, mild & gentle roasted coffee throughout, 5/10 sweetness, transitions beautifully into a soft bitter chocolaty finish. Notes of vanilla, almond, and cherries. High complexity, med-high length, fabulous transitions, high depth, long length. Almost perfect but a bit of ethyl alcohol detection at the 2/3 mark; probably can’t be helped but still detracts from the tasting experience. Be careful with this one, 1/2 bottle through and it is on.

Thanks to Captain America for this one. Anniversary XIV bottle brought back from the US. Oily black pour with a frothy, khaki head. Head sits around for the duration and leaves a touch of lacing. The first sniff gave me a big hit of chocolate chip cookie. Smells damn tasty. As it warmed, quite a bit of vanilla came out which is balanced out by some strong, peppery bourbon tones and cocoa powder. The very first sip gives me the impression of choc chip icecream. Freakin good ! Sweet vanilla underlying all the way through. Cocoa powder surrounds the mouth with light bourbon tones coming in and out. Quite spicey with a touch of pepper and toasted oak. Not an overly complex brew but everything comes together unbelievably. Very lengthy finish of light bourbon tones and chocolate. The thing about this barrel aged beer is the balance. Not overly sweet like some of the other big stouts. Everything mingles fantastically. Almost a perfect beer

At first sip I was very disappointed in this beer. One hit wonder. Full of barrel and not much more. No other ingredients came out. But the worst part was how thin this beer was. One of the thinnest stouts I’ve ever had. As the beer cooled down I did enjoy it more and more. More stuff came out. The usual suspects. Chocolate, Vanilla, Oak, Bourbon, and toffee. It was good but not great and damn does that mouthfeel just disappoint me. If they fix that problem, this is easily an A for me.
