COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

StefanSD (1541) - Lakeside, California, USA - FEB 7, 2012
12 oz bottle. Pours a translucent roan brown color with a small beige head that fizzes and rapidly dissipates. The aroma is moderate in strength with toffee, malts and dark breads. The taste is malts forward with toffee, caramel, colas and lots of nutty sensations; walnuts, pecans and filberts. Additionally, in the tasting, there is a lightly spicy hop presence, much brown sugar sweetness and a good dose of hot alcohol. The palate is silky smooth with carbonation that is lively and prickly. Finishes long with lingering heath bar. Overall: A very tasty complex brew, but a bit hot. I bought a four-pack to cellar, lets see how long this can make it.

From a bottle (2011): Dark copper color with a one finger off white head. No lacing. Moderate carbonation. Smells interesting, like plum, malts, and funky white cheese. Taste different, like sweet malts, brown sugar and a hint of vanilla. Texture is a little oily, and the after taste is drawn out with warming from the alcohol and a touch of sweetness. This is not overly sweet, and the alcohol is not overly present for my taste. Although, those two things are what seem to define this ale. I would like to try old vintages of this ale to see what flavors come out, I am sure it will not disappoint.

12 oz. bottle from Julio’s Liquor’s. $4.75 with a Wild Six discount. 2010 vintage. Snifter used. Muddy water color into a snifter. Average CO2. Small ring of head that left nearly no lace at all. Nose is prune, plum and dates. Barley Wines get better with age and I know this is no exception. Flavor is REAL sweet with dark fruit, molasses, brown sugar, caramel malt, toffee, honey and some faint alcohol notes. Full body, thick, oily texture, soft carbonation. Have to admit BW’s aren’t my favorite style, this one is still good.

Deep ruddy brown pour. Aroma is caramel, chocolate, dried fruit, raisins, spice, pepper, yeast, esters. Flavor is very sweet; caramel, dried fruits, yeast, metallic and smoke hints. large bodied, sticky sweet finish.

(Bottle 2011 vintage) Pours a murky dark amber with a full finger tan head that fell fast. The nose is very subtle for a barleywine, but had hints of earth and some prune/plum that was very pleasant. It’s very rich in the mouth with a pleasant caramel malt flavor up front, and a very nice warming from the alcohol at the finish. The flavor sticks around for a while, but that’s not a bad thing. An excellent choice on a very cold night!

On tap. Pour is fairly murky dark golden Amber with a modest off white head in this glass. The nose is dark fruits, caramel, toffee, Brown sugar, and booze. The flavor profile is sweet, bitter from the hops, caramel, toffee, sticky, boozy, but a little on the simple side.

Pours murky brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel and toffee. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light bitter. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle (2010 vintage). Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small beige head. Boozy aroma with caramel and toffee malts. Flavor is quite sweet with bitterness in the finish.
