COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Note blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout. The combination is aged in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The result is a malty harmony of dark chocolate, espresso and dried fruit notes, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

Bottle from Champanes, this stout had a black-brown pour and made a one finger tan colored head that receded to a cover that had some open areas and a thick ring, this beer was opaque and I could not see through but I saw a mound of bubbles on the top of the beer and some bubbles flowing up the sides of the glass, it left spots and fingers of lacing on the sides of the glass, I saw no sediment in the bottle, this beer had aromas of bourbon, vanilla, bourbon liquor, roasted malt, caramel, some chocolate, malt and bourbon sweetness, it had flavors of roasted malt, bourbon, molasses, bourbon liquor and malt sweetness, there was a little burnt roasted malt notes and there was a touch of coffee flavor in the background, the finish had roasted malt with molasses and a touch of bitterness, the mouth feel was more than medium and had a little creaminess, this beer had more sweetness on the nose than on the mouth, a nice bourbon barreled Imperial stout, not too much bourbon as I find in many Imperial stouts, and not a lot of sweetness like some BB Impys, this was a nice mix of Bourbon Barrel and Imperial Stout.

The sweetness from the alcohol and the bourbon hit you first, but then you taste raisins, dark chocolate, and coffee. Some pretty distinct maple, presumably from the barrel along. A really nice long finish where the maple comes through. Very nice, complex beer; very nice balance.

Pours a dark black with light and quick fading brown head. A weaker aroma than I’d expect with bourbon and coffee. An rich and strong bourbon, coffee, and light cocoa taste. Its both sweet and sour. There’s lingering strong bourbon taste that I was hoping for this beer. Amazing and so glad I found this!

Pours a dark brown with a tan foam head. Aroma is strong oak bourbon with a touch of caramel. Flavor is oak bourbon with hints of sweet chocolate, caramel, and some dark fruit. There’s a small touch of bitterness as well. The beer is very smooth - goes down like silk. Amazing.

0.355l bottle from trade with FrostyTiger. This is a deep dark black one with a quickly disappearing but lovely looking dark as hell top. The nose is as amazing as I was expecting. Loaded with dark chocolate and bourbon. Both burned coconut, sweet vanilla and dark soy seeds is present here. As is dark coffee, sweet Nesquick and deep dark roasted malts as well. And the wood shines through all the dark aromas. Absolutely fantastic. Tingling and prickling on the carbonation and it has a massive and thick chewy mouthfeel. Lots of bourbon in the taste without being over the top. Alcohol, sweet milky but dark milk chocolate ice cream, tons of oak, more coconut, sesame seed oil, wood, something burned before it ends warming, dark and just delicious. A fantastic bourbon and roasted aftertaste that’s refusing to let go in the mouth. A really really good one! Can’t thank you enough David! 01.05.2013

Bottle thanks to Homer. Pours black , tiny tan head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, oak, yummy. Taste is really light, atleast for a 11% beer. Light bodied, which I wasn’t expecting. Get the bourbon warmth in my throat at the end. Really nice beer.

Amazing beer. Thanks to joedevivre. Black as night pour. Nose and taste were incredibly balanced. Creamy and slightly chewy mouthfeel that worked so well. Espresso, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon. So much complexity as it warmed.

Tried a 2012 and 2014 side by side. Not that much different, preferred the 2012, seemed rounder and better balanced. A thick and creamy-feeling stout. I thought there was a dominant vanilla character here, too much in my opinion. Very smooth, pretty sweet. Enjoyable, very good.

Black pour with a thin head. Huge sweet aroma. Lots of whiskey on the nose. Medium mouth. Taste is sweet. Cocoa, espresso, roast and lots of chocolate. Incredibly easy to drink for the ABV. Alcohol is super hidden.
