4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 Wulfstan (509) - USA - OCT 5, 2009
This Baltic poter is outstanding, with rich, complex flavour and texture, yet high drinkability.
Basically black, it has a very large, rich, frothy light brown head that shrinks only slowly to a permanent, thin, foamy top and rich, frothy lace.
The aroma is mild wine, chocolate, prunes, toast. Although with firm, complex elements, it’s somewhat subdued.
The taste is rich, complex, smooth and clean. All flavours, sweetness and bitterness are beautifully balanced with complex taste of leaves, chocolate, dark toasted brown bread, prunes, a hint of port, some raisin, black pepper, the latter stronger in the finish, with an increasing taste of black coffee condensed with brown sugar that is stronger by the end. It is rather dry throughout, not too bitter or sweet. In the middle, it has a definite but light sweetness and light but slightly stronger bitterness right at the finish, but for most of the time, up front and in the final finish and aftertaste, it is mostly dry, clean, and leafy.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 savnac (1478) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - MAY 21, 2012
Growler from LaBodega. Dark brown with a small creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate fudge, roasted coffee and light alcohol. Flavor is rich chocolate and bread, bitter roasted malt and a slight alcohol taste. Medium to full body with soft carbonation and a oily, slightly thin texture. This beer smells amazing, but the taste fell a bit short, still really great though.

Very dark brown with a big head with good retention. Aromas of chocolate, light wood, light smoke. Flavors of chocolate, slight wood, light toffee behind the chocolate, slight caramel, and a hint of hops come through but barely. Milky, slight burnt malt aftertaste, lightly sweet, good stuff.

33cl bottle. Nice, light brown head. Black color. Decent lace. Nice, rich bigger body. Lighter, crisp carbonation. Very nice roasty aroma, but a hint of that metallic english malt aroma. Little chocolate. Light sweet and roasty taste. Definitely a quality porter.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 maxwelldeux (320) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - MAY 2, 2012
I got minimal head on this. It pours wonderfully thick and had some great strong flavors to it. Taste like a porter on steroids - flavors are a bit amplified from your typical porter, but it has a really nice taste.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Onenote81 (902) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - APR 30, 2012
Originally reviewed: 1/4/09. Pours a thick motor oil-like black. This is the thickest and most syrup-like beer I’ve ever poured. Pours a huge tan head that, as the previous post wrote, looks very much like a chocolate shake. Smells of sweet alcohol, chocolately tones, and some slight smokiness.
Very smooth and creamy brew. I’m tasting some roasted characteristics, some definitive chocolate, with a pumpernickel bready finish. Very fine tasting beer. This is an exceptional brew. Recommend.
