One of my favorite beers ever. I don’t know why but I have a soft spot for the wonderful grainy maltiness and delicious noble hops in this beer. I can drink this to oblivion. If I could only have one beer this might be it.

Nice nose, okay looking, taste is rather bland and uninspired, but that is the style.

Had at a recent beer club meeting. Poured a medium brown with thinner layer of foamy tan head. Aroma malty and sweet, tad earthy. Flavor is pretty straight forward dunkel - lots of sweeter caramely malt, slight burnt undertone. Could drink a lot of these for sure.

I was disappointed as I love Munich beer and that includes Spaten. Dull yellow color with thin head and a mild aroma. Weak taste for dunkel.

Would have liked to have tasted this before Spaten unfortunately became an InBev brewery, but I have to say it’s still a good German beer. Very similar to original Spaten, but with the characteristics of traditionally darker beers.

A german classic dunkel. Heavy on the flavor, malty, but medium bodied. A session dunkel for sure.

Bottle. Amber pour with a smaller cream-colored head. Nose is malt, bread, and the German-beer-funk that I haven’t been able to put a good descriptor to quite yet. Palate is a bit thin. Taste is caramel and bread.

Pours clear brown with a decent off white head. Aroma is bread and nutty. Taste is caramel sweetness and bready. Pretty thin but not awful.

Bottle. Molasses and barley malt aroma. Chestnut color with large tan head. Slightly sweet chocolate malt and lightly bitter hay hops flavor. Not bad - naturally past its prime but still decent.

Scrapersnbeer (457) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 19, 2012
Dark clear brown with an initial two finger head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt a a bit of skunk(!) Extreme syrupy sweetness dominates and give the beer a much thicker feel than the medium body denotes. I like Spaten’s stronger product and was excited to see this...guess I’m just not into dunkels.

Oakes (10191) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 5, 2012
Draft, Zeke’s. Amber brown colour. The aroma is a mix of caramel and toast. Sweet but light body. Has some light caramel character. Lacks either the fullness or the earthiness of the best examples.
