This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. 33cl bottle. Black colour with a medium tan head that quickly diminishes but maintaining a thin layer. Aroma is toasty, dark cofffee, chocolate and red fruits. Flavor is very similar as aroma, with roasted malts notes, traces of red qnd dryed fruits, vanilla, cocoa. On palate is smooth, rounded and very dense. The final is long with notes of dark coffee, caramel, chocolate and light bittery. Where are the 100 IBU, they are hidden by alcohol, roasted malts and red fruits. A really impressive beer.

on tap at LaTrappe in San Francisco; an imperial stout; black color; complex aroma - bourbon, vanilla, and dark, roasted malt; fantastic dark roasted malt flavor with bourbon and oak notes; warm bourbon finish; very smooth

Draught. Pitch black with one finger tan/beige head. Aroma of coffe, wort and figs/dates/raisins. Taste is sweet with sweet black bread (vörtbröd), raisins/dark dried fruits and maybe some cranberry. Mouthfeel is smooth and the carbonation is light, a tad too sweet for my taste but still very good.

33cl @ bottle. Imperial stout by De Struise.

Beer looks fabulous, nearly black with a brown head. Aroma of candy sugar, coffee, fruit. In the taste this is combined with dark chocolat, spices, plums. The alcohol adds to the taste, but you’ll never guess that it has a 13% ABV. Very good stout.

Bottle from Etre Gourmet. The base beer is always the better! Coffee, vanilla, chocolate, wood, berries, liquorice. Not much to say. Excellent!

Dark, almost black, muddy as crude oil, colour, with creamy brown tiny head. Aroma and flavours of raisins, dark fruits, especialy plums, coffee, dark chocolate, cane, little tobacco. Medium or better say full body with sweet, almost liqueuric taste. Low carbonation, 100 IBU is unbealivable hidden, meanwhile with 13% abv. shows its muscles, especialy in finish. Amazing beer, a real masterpiece. Thats why is Struise my favourite belgian brewery! I Hardly wait do get first pieces of "Black Damnation series"

15cl in a glass at the Bruges Beer Fest 2014. A pitchblack, heavy body beer from De Struise Brouwers. Very sticky, coffee flavoured beer with a Marangoni effect in the glass. Sugary, bitter.
