COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6, and is aged for 10 months before bottling. It is one of the rarest specialties in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex. Brilliant deep amber, complex dry toasted malt nose and huge intensely sweet palate. The 2007 bottling is the first bottling since 1987.

skoll (348) - Traverse City, USA - DEC 18, 2011
Real sweet nose and alcohol heat. Honey, maple and come citrus liqueur type notes. Copper gold color, clear, no head whatsoever. Medium+ sweetness with caramel, maple and some hints of vanilla. Light bitterness with hints of citrus. Slick and thick mouthfeel. Very sweet attack and a lingering syrupy sweet finish with just a touch of hops to balance. Surprisingly enjoyable for such a boozy and sweet beer. Not to be guzzled but a great fireside sipping beer.

lusikka (2533) - Tampere, FINLAND - MAY 4, 2012
330 ml bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, Tampere. Bottled in 2007.
Pours a reddish copper colour with a small white head which disappears quickly. Aroma of strong ripe fruits, alcohol and some sweet orange. Strong flavour of sweet ripe fruits, bready malts, grassy hops, nuts, strong caramel and banana. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel and a long, warming, fruity, malty finish. Complex, wine-like and enjoyable.

SpringsLicker (2546) - Tennessee, USA - APR 22, 2012
2007 bottle. Cellared until date rated. Pours a clear deep gold with a slowly developing minimal head. The head is gone in moments. Sweet aroma that reminds me of fresh apple cider. Sweet and fruity. Verging on syrupy. A bit sweet for my tastes, but it hides it’s alcohol very well and my suit some of you for a cold evening sipper.

Chipalsa (704) - Florida, USA - APR 21, 2012
At 14% abv, this beer was unusually easy to drink. In the nose was lots of buttery popcorn, caramel and came together as baklava. The mouth feel was thin, but the taste was incredibly sweet and smooth like a fine liquor. Flavors of honey, almonds and toffee were upfront and in your face SWEET. I enjoyed this very much so, but it is very drinkable with the high alcohol count. Be careful ;-).

Total Wine & More, Fairfax 330ml ($5.50): Pours an unassuming golden color without much head. Nose is all this dirty bock malt like you won’t even believe. It just screams BOCK at you. Tastes like a sugar bomb in my mouth. Yet, it is strangely manageable as the sugar does not stick in my mouth, but rather kind of dissipates, or at least that is the feeling I am getting from the first sip. Yeah this is pretty much all malt and mostly sugar. Reminds me of Kulmbacher Eisbock kind of. Not really my thing, and unless you like your beer super sweet, I don’t see how it would be yours either.

Pours a clear amber with a slight white head. Smells malty - bread, nuts, roasty. Taste is very sweet, almost a little sugary - no hops presence, very malty

Very very potent. It took me about 45mins to finish this one to be honest but it was rich in flavor and warmed me right up.

freeofthoughts (269) - Raytown, Missouri, USA - MAR 23, 2012
2010 bottle pours gold orange with a density like whiskey. Aromas of cereal grain and sweetness. The taste is very robust with a sugary sweet grain to compensate for the large amount of alcohol, with a green grape and apple fruity sweetness almost an apple tart in there too. It works for the most part but getting through this fast isn’t easy or advisable. It palates like a glass of whiskey on ice, almost slick with a very low carbonation. It is pretty awesome really, there just aren’t many beers like this, particularly with the longevity of this recipe. Big ups to whoever revived the extinct brew.

Clear amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, dried fruit, sugary and alcoholic. Flavor is very sweet and rather bitter. Sweet finish with warming alcohol. Oily. 220312
