COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Brewed by Belhaven for Innis & Gunn
Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

12 ounce bottle- pours out a really beautiful auburn color with a thin white head, very attractive in a pub glass. Aroma was sweet, a quirky mix of wood and candied berries. Tastes of apples and brown sugar, very enjoyable. Mouth filling and smooth. A very nice brew with a wonderful potential, I’ll be looking for this one again.

Not quite as good as oak aged, but ok. Alcoholic strength is a little too obvious, and this goes out of taste to the whole.

(bottle) Clear deep red brown with pale tan head. Lovely aroma with vanilla, dried fruits. Medium to full bodied with nice bright carbonation. Rich and complex flavour. Sweet toffee and vanilla with raisins and rum appearing in the finish. Excellent.

Very dark and potent version of the classic oak aged beer. Can definitely taste the rum and molasses in amongst the smooth vanilla and toffee notes. But somehow not quite as good as the original. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

miraculously unskunked despite clear bottle. brown with small head. rummier with less vanilla than regular oak aged. the rum seems to hide a lot of what makes the original so tasty.

Bottle. Pours clear dark reddish brown with small non-lasting white head. Aroma is melon, peach, banana, vanilla, caramel, malt, dough and mild cheese. Hints of coffee. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet. Body is oily with lively carbonation. Finish is long, bitter and sweet, with notes of caramel, licorice, coffee, cream and brown sugar. Refreshing yet complex beer.

Nice beer with woody aftertaste. I miss a bit more taste of malt, but the warmth of alkohol in the end is just perfect.

Pours a clear and dark copper beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt, caramel, rum and notes of alcohol. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is sweetness and a low level of carbonation. Overall an average beer.

Bottle at home. In the glass the beer has a clear nut-brown colour with a pretty big light beige head. The aroma is characterized by sweet malt, caramel, and some roast and alcohol. The taste is quite sweet with a touch of caramel, salty licorice, sweet biscuits, and a little bit roast again. The beer feels quite soft, smooth and silky in the mouth, and holds very little bitterness. A very easy-drinking beer. It appears to me as a sweeter type of British ale.
