4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 JamesD (218) - Centreville, USA - DEC 21, 2010
Pours pitch black, with a rapidly diminishing white head. The aroma is almost vinous with a hint of tartness. Some roasty, bready notes are also detectable. The flavor is soft, and smooth as silk. Mellow malt with a roasted chocolate aftertaste and just the slightest hint of belgian funkiness. Tastes like a really dark Belgian ale mixed with an English stout.
Truly outstanding, I love it.

Allagash black. Bottle pours black cola tinge light light tan cola head and well laced. Aromas of roast coffee bean sweet dark toffee caramel Light medium body, medium, high zesty carbonation with a generous piney bitterness. Lingering coffee, roast flavors a touch light on the body for all the roast with vanilla smoke wood rounding out the finish.
4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Koskela (37) - Marysville, California, USA - MAY 15, 2012
Just opened bottle, im expecting a very sweet very full bodied stout. The color seems as black as the name and label with virtually no head....sad... The aroma smells like coffee and a sweet smell. Both very faint. The taste is almost as i thought. Sweet medium/full body. Must use same yeast as the other allagash beer that i had i forget the name. But it has an identical taste. No hoppy flavor no vanilla or chocolate or coffee for that matter as in most other stouts. For a belgian stout i say they did a fairly decent job. Worth a buy at least once.

Tap. Pours opaque black with thick, creamy beige head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, figs and other dark fruit, faint earthy hops, and light toffee. Flavor is malt forward with good supporting hops and fruit esters; dry finish. Medium body, carbonation, and finish.

At Tylers. Good aroma, sweet roasty. Roasty malt, with sweet streak. Orangy brown color, good head, minor lace. Roasty sweet flavor. Medium body, creamy smooth mouthfeel. Dry sweet finish. Tasty. I like the play with yeast and malt, just enough of a change from the foreign stout to distinguish itself.

Pours in between black and deep dark red with a khaki head. Smell is a bit fruity, belgium yeast, and a bit of roast. Taste is very roasty, almost like an imperial porter, bit of a burning on the tail end. Red fruit present, but ash and bitter coffee dominates, the Belgium sweetness doesn’t come through in the flavor. Slightly disappointing.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 rejtable (485) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 20, 2012
This is a beauty! Pours nearly pitch black with a very creamy coloured head that sticks around for awhile. Some lacing in glass. Nose is dark fruit with maybe a small hint of coffee. Up front same idea, prunes, maybe some lighter plums. Middle and back are maltier, with coffee and maybe a hint of dark chocolate. Light carbonation and a pretty smooth feel in the mouth. Great beer!

Draft at Pony with Streets and BRendan. Pours a deep black with light reddish hue. Aroma is sweet roast, chocolate, and light coffee. Mouthfeel is thin with notes of sweet roast and light chocolate. Tasted like an imperial porter.
