Commercial Description:
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say there are only 1000 cases. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Dark brown pour with creamy tan head and lace. Aroma of licorice, boozy abv, chocolate. A chocolate, abv, flavor with a medium bitter finish. Medium bodied with good carbonation. A very nice beer just a bit off for me.

Pitch black with a small beige head that dissipates after a while. The smell is balanced and complex with pleasant notes of roasted malts and gentle bourbon notes up front. Some roasty acidity, dark chocolate, vanilla and a hint of dark fruits. The taste is also balanced with the bourbon notes well integrated with the rather powerful stout flavors. Nice roasted malts with slight coffee character, dark chocolate. A faint note of sweet dark fruits. Vanilla, oak barrels and some peppery spices. The bourbon accentuates towards the finish which has a roasted bitterness to it and a pleasant taste of alcohol. Surprisingly light body (medium rather than full). Plenty of carbonation. Semi-dry finish. A good beer. Not a bourbon monster. Instead, it’s quite well balanced and showcases a happy marriage between imperial stout flavors and subtle bourbon notes. Serving type: bottle (Copy of old Beer Advocate review)

75cl bottle thanks to bret27. Black with a small brown head. The aroma is fruity with dark chocolate, low roast, and a touch of bourbon barrel. The flavor is pretty dry with some dark chocolate, light bourbon and oak, and some roasty bitterness in the finish. Almost light on the body; certainly a drinkable barrel-aged imperial stout, but lacks much impact that I look for in that style sub-category. A pretty interesting beer that was a lot tamer than I expected, with a welcome dryness. I’ll definitely give it the nod over BCS, though it should get it at the price this went for.

Poured from 750ml, dark, dark, brown with medium tan head. Great nose of hops, booze, and milk chocolate. Chocolate and dark coffee in flavor, with the booze right in there. Interesting blend of bourbon, chocolate, coffee, and bubbly. Worked for me, a thoroughly enjoyable Impy Stout.

This is a real whiskey aged beer. It taste smells and feels like liquior. One of the best imperial stouts I’ve had. But as we all know it doesn’t exsist. I wish it did

One word..... AMAZING!!!!! Aroma is nail polish remover and booze but the flavor is so much more. Cold it tastes like choc and coffee but when it warms up the notes of oak and burbon really come out. If you can get ahold of this beer that "doesn’t exsist" please grab a bottle.

This could be a little better if the champagne yeast hadn’t dried it out so much. There’s a good barrel, licorice and roast, but it falls short of my top beers in the style.

Pours pitch black with a milk chocolate head. Nice fluffy lacing. Aroma is very chocolatey with a red fruitiness. Not much bourbon at all here, which is sort of refreshing. Flavor is somehow not roasty at all. There are coffee notes but none of the roasted bitterness that usually accompanies it. Chocolate syrup and dark chocolate notes with a oakiness and subtle bourbon. Doesn’t taste as big as it is, which is a bit of a downside.
