COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Black pour with a creamy tan head. Strong aroma of chocolate and bourbon and vanilla. Lots of chocolate, bourbon, and vanilla flavor. Finishes with smoke and dark fruit.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2014 Cerveza muy negra. Con espuma marrón, con forma de mousse que se queda en una especie de crema expresso. Olor a whiskey, bourbon. El sabor es achocolatado y a café pero también a bourbon. Sorprendentemente seca, carbonatada en boca. Es algo muy especial.

Tasted the 2012 and 2013 vintages back-to-back. The extra year on the 2012 bottle made a world of difference. The flavors of oak, roasted malt, chocolate, and light vanilla meld extremely well. A rich, complex beer. The 2013 was slightly harsh on the palate and more boozy, which made the flavors more difficult to distinguish. I rate the 2012 as a 4.2 but the 2013 was more like a 3.9. If you’re lucky enough to find a few bottles of this stuff, I would absolutely cellar them for a couple years before opening!

Bottle poured into a mini pint.

A - Pours pitch black with a fizzy dark tan film of head, dissipating down to nothing, leaving little to no lacing down the glass.

S - Served a bit too cold I think...Tons of bourbon heat up front dominates every part of this nose. Some dark roasted malt and bittersweet chocolate help lend some balance but this nose is all bourbon. A bit one dimensional with the bourbon at first but as it warms up it gets a lot better.

T - Lots of bourbon up front that lingers throughout. Dark roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, and a bit of dark roasted coffee help keep things balanced as much as they can but this one really is all about the bourbon. Finish is pretty hot with plenty of lingering dark roast from the malt and dark chocolate. This one is still pretty hot but I still like it for what it is, a boozy in your face barrel aged stout.

M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. When first poured it fizzed loudly with carbonation but that ended quickly leaving moderately low carbonation for the duration. Quite hot on the feel with some lingering roast.

D - Decently high. I liked this one, but only once it warmed up a bit. When it was cold it was a bit awkward with that much bourbon and not much of the base flavors. Once it warmed up a bit you could finally smell and taste some of the other flavors that make this beer great. With such a high ABV you really can’t drink a ton of this but it is good to have every now and then.

75 cl bottle. This review does not exist. If it did, it would say "licorice, oak, vanilla, julmust and resin". ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750ml bottle courtesy of Jimsal27, thanks. Pours a blackish color with a small tan head that has fair retention. The aroma is strong with dark fruits, licorice, baking chocolate and whiskey. The taste follows the nose with chocolate and mocha in the forefront and then whiskey and dark fruits fill in the sides and back. The palate is full and smooth with soft carbonation. The finish is long and dry with a lingering taste of chocolate coated cherries. Overall: righteous brewski.

Bottled @ Zeebra #2. 10cl sample. The aroma has mint, molasses, vanilla, roast, bourbon, chocolate. Black coloured beer with an off-white, thin head. The taste is sweet, has chocolate, bourbon and I got a hint of sourishness. Aroma is better than taste.

750ml bottle - pours black with thin mocha head. Lots of sweet bourbon on the nose . Nice silky milk chocolate upfront with a tasty bourbon finish . Very good . ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black with rich hazelnut head. Fruity aroma with notes of vanilla. Taste and body is not very thick with notes of vanilla, wine and chocolate.

Corked bomber into tulip glass, opaque black color with creamy dark tan head. Aroma of roasted barley malt, brown sugar, vanilla, dark chocolate, lactose and woody oak. Taste adds notes of marshmallow, grain, earthy hop bitterness, light coffee grounds and milk chocolate. Heavy body, low carbonation, creamy, soft with a roasty, dark fruity and rich finish. Great texture, complexity and balance on this barrel-aged IRS!

cask pour at 2SP..black as night with little carbonation or head as expected..nose is the highlight here with heavy bourbon present..some vanilla presence..mouthfeel is really also pretty unique probably because of the cask..really has an invisible mouthfeel with little to no trace of the booze and a more thin body than anticipated..however the lingering finish is all booze and provides some warm heat and a moderately complex bourbon finish intertwined with some quality coffee as well..happy to try this on draft..
