COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Native to northern Europe, Baltic porters evolved from British porters once exported to the Russian hinterland. Unlike their British cousins, Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. big thanks so emacgee for this bomber - HELLYEA! This just rated out as my mostest favoritest beer ever (will try some yeti’s to compare). Big nose of malt, roasts, coffee. Black pour with frothy tan head; mmmmmm. perfectly balanced - malts, roasts, dark chocolate powder, and alcohol. PERFECT balance. slightly oily, slight fizz. did I mention that this is GREAT. PERMANENT want list!!

Smells of oiled leather, dark molassess, dark cocoa. Strong alcohol in nose. Pitch black with thick tan head. Taste sarts bitter and alcoholic but quickly sweetens. Nose is reinforced in taste but some tobacco notes as well. Mouthfeel is very oily. Some heat from the alcohol. Very complex but just too much of everything for my taste. leaves my palate worn out before finishing the first glass.

Pours black with maybe a finger of head. Smell is full, roasty, bit of cherry. Taste is black licorice, tar, coffee, and a really roasty way down. Pretty good.

Opaque brown-black with dark tan-brown tightly knitted head. The commercial description is quite accurate and therefore, worth repeating: "Baltic porters are often brewed as lagers, the tradition we’ve followed. This beer is big, bold & smooth, with malty flavors reminiscent of coffee, dark fruit & raisins. " And, since 2006, I thought Anchor Porter would be though to match. $3.99/22oz bomber @ Total Wine & More, Boca Raton, Florida

Refrigerated bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with small medium brown highlight with small beige head that dissapates quickly. Little lacing, medium body, low carbonation, creamy texture, and light roasted malt aroma. Taste is roasted malt, dark fruit, burnt coffee, and bitter hop finish. Alcohol is pretty well covered, pretty good.

Pours black oil, hot chocolate froth head. Aroma of mocha and something like almonds or walnuts. Strong malty flavor with very upfront boozy taste. Thick and chocolaty could almost bite the drink. Like a stout without the coffee tones, this makes me doubt my love for stouts. Really satisfying pouring 22 ounces into the biggest glass I have (so what, who doesn’t love a huge glass of delicious beer).

650ml bottle. Pours a bruised dark brown with dark beige head of very fine bubbles. Chocolate pudding, boiled fruit and brandy on the nose with a wisp of licorice. Chocolate and licorice dominate the palate with a slight boozy note. Big creamy texture.

Originally reviewed: 1/18/10. Bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a very thick deep black. There’s a big frothy tan head resting on top. Great retention; left some lace spots on the glass. Scents of roasted malts, sweet cream, and milk chocolate. Very creamy body. Carbonation level is low. This is just silky smooth. This is a very sweet Baltic. Mild coffee bitterness present, but this has notes of vanilla, chocolate milk, and a little grape on the finish. This isn’t as bold as I expected, but it is still good nonetheless.

brewed in 2010, tasted in 2012. Tan head and has a prune/purple-ish colour in the hue but is a really dark brew. Huge aroma, very welcoming, cake, roast, fruitcake, espresso and a hint of boozy/brandyness. More of the same on the palate, amongst all those roastes and chocolate notes is an acidity that reminds me of something fruity. layered and long finish. Very glad i tried this one.

I dont remember much after drinking this beer. Other then waking up next to Blackhaddock wondering where my breakfast went. I have a faint recollection of coffee beans but disturbingly, they didnt quite help me recover from being knocked unconscious with its bottle. Fine beer as well as rape, has its high and low points:)

Oct 2009: This one pint and six fluid ounce bottle was given to me by Bierman9 (an American BA) in Munich and consummed in my hotel room for breakfast in Nurnberg the next day! First of all an apology to David, it was drank out of a plastic beaker! What a fantastic breakfast beer, who needs a coffee and brown toast after one of these? As mentioned above the beer was poured (about five times) into my plastic toothbrush holder cup and each time it looked great. A dark, deep brown liquid with a dirty creamy head stared straight back at me each time I filled the cup. My nose detected rich burnt coffee beans, dark chocolate and an Irish Peat Bog in the aroma, a fine mix at nine in the morning. The taste did justice to the aroma I had been sniffing. Add a slighty smoked Austrian Cheese to the smell mixture. This, along with all the aforementioned robust flavours gave me a wonderful tasting Porter to start the day off with. I owe David a big one!
