In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.
Bottled at 5.2% abv - can go up as high as 7.2%

Seems very refined, like a fine cognac. Certain members of their field seem a step above everything else in a certain way... Grace Kelly or Cary Grant in acting, for example. Orval is like that for me, and dry and sour at the same time, the only time Iíve experienced this in a beer.

33cl bottle, 3 month old. Murky orange with a very tall white head with very good retention. Notes of freshly cut grass, bitter medicine, caramel, unripe bananas, spices. Medium body, high carbonation, refreshing mouthfeel and a bitter finish.

Jest genialną bombą aromatyczną i smakową. W zapachu bardzo mocne kwiaty i owoce, drożdżowy i pszeniczny charakter objawiający się jako guma balonowa i przejrzały banan jest nieco schowany w tej eksplozji. Bogaty smak łączy w sobie sporą gęstość, słodycz słodową, zioła, lekką pikantność, wyraźne chmielowe posmaki i delikatny kwasek.

Pours golden brown with a big head. Rich taste, sweetness of banana, that probably originates from the yeast. Good introducing trappist.

Anchor: Good morning Philadelphia. With us today is Frank Reynolds. Local business owner and a man with a harrowing story.
Frank: Thatís right. Three days ago three thugs tried to mug me.
(grabs sandwich and waves it around)
Frank: Now I want to be very clear about something.
(takes a bite of sandwich)
Fank: These pieces of garbage, they donít know who the hell theyíre dealing with-
Anchor: Excuse me, now do you think maybe you could eat that sandwich later?
Frank: Iím starving. You donít got nothing to eat on this show.
Anchor: Lets get back to-
Frank: Right. Now these punks, I donít know if they wanted money, or if they wanted something more sexual. But its a lucky thing I had my pieces.
Anchor: Pieces?
Frank: My guns
(pulls out two guns and points them at the camera)
Anchor: Oh...
Frank: Anyway, I started blasting (gesturing with guns). BANG BAH. Now I donít see so good so I missed. Then they ran away. I ran after them. BANG I tried to shoot them in the back but I donít run so good either.
(sets guns on the table and faces the crowd)
Frank: Anyway, you guys all think Iím a hero and Iíll accept that responsibility.
Anchor: Werent you concerned that an innocent bystander may have-
Frank: Crime in this city is out of control. Thank God I went down to Guntherís Guns and picked up a spare. I donít think one would have done it. Iím gonna go out and buy some more.
Anchor: OK-
Frank: And I think you should too. Donít be a victim. Itís time to fight back.

Had this plenty of times over the years but was finally coerced into typing up a rating. These bottles were bottled April 27, 2016. At 5 months old this is the youngest we can get Orval in the US and even though itís between that hoppy fresh flavor and that nicely aged (12-18 months) mildly funky stage itís still a damn good beer.

As always itís highly carbed, hazy, bitter, and delicious. Takes a while for the head to die down. As mentioned before, this has not yet developed the characteristic funk that it gets after a year in the bottle. Mind you thatís under proper aging conditions. Aging in your closet does not count.

bottled 4/2012. the aroma is mostly catty (in a pleasant way), earthy, grassy with some dark fruit and spices. pours pale amber with a full-on head with large white bubbles. its def hazy. med body with slightly oily texture and more than moderate astringency. flavors of raisins and candy sugars. fruity esters and slight funkyness. significant bitterness that lasts long through in the aftertaste both smooths out over time. this is great Belgian drinking very close to its peak. label says it should cellar well into 2017

Bottle from vinum in TŁbingen. Pours hazy orange. Smells of citrus and something bitter i canít quite Put my Finger on. Taste is so weird. Maybe i canít appriciate it yet, but it tastes like sanbitter or crodino mixed with beer. I bought another bottle, so Iíll rerate it in a different setting.

Fantastiskt god och smakrik öl. Massa doft och smak! Sötma, citrus, torkad frukt, jäst, lite sur nästan, lätt beska. Mycket bra! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aromat kwiatowy, owocowy, estrowy, fenolowy, bogaty i przyjemny. W wyglądzie miedziane, mętne, z obfitą kremową pianą. W smaku suszone owoce i owoce świeże - winogrona, śliwki, figi, rodzynki. Pyszne piwo
