COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.

29/02/2012 Fresh example, very little Brett influence besides the loud pop and foam.

A bottle at the ’Cafe Bastille’ near Tai Power Building. Aroma: fruity, I detect pear. Appearance: clear golden brown, dense but minimal head. It looks great in its branded chalice. Palate: astringent and long-lasting. Taste: weird - I don’t like it! The yeast in this one gives it a very special flavour - I appreciate that it’s a complex beverage and one that you shoud try if you’re interested in the Trappists, but it simply isn’t my cup of tea...

A trade with YantarCoast. Huge thanks. Hazy amber. Tall airy head. Average retention. Aroma: leather, horse blanket, fruit, ascorbic acid, brut champagne, floral hop. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Oily textute. Complex dry taste. Fruit & citrus peel. Champagne. Caramel malt. Light refreshing sourness. Solid resiny & floral bitterness. Long hoppy ending. Amazing how craft-like it is! A very distinct one. Great experience.

Originally rated on 9/26/08. Orval pours a mid to light brown body, super big head, with good carbonation. Aroma of apricots, raisins, and alcohol. Mouthfeel was a little on the light side and it was smooth. Flavor wasnt that great for me, alcohol was dominant with very slight hints of sour yeast. Overall it was a decent beer but at $ 5.00 + a bottle it wasnt that great, i might try one again someday in the future.

A little bit funky to begin with but aroma grows fragrant. Beautiful dark colour and highly carbonated. Reminiscent of crunchy nut cereal. Not too memorable but would give it another try.

Orange color, unclear. Sweet fruit aromas, oranges, spices. Very dry, white wine, yeast, fruits, some hop. Almost like a champagne. Dry finish.

UPDATED: JUL 13, 2016 33cl bottle, served in Orval trappist chalice. Poured cloudy amber with a two finger ivory head. Delicious aromas of orange peel, peach, cherry, grenadine, grapefruit, bready malt. Taste: Orange, peach, cherry, grapefruit, hoppy bitterness, caramel, spice, grapes, grenadine, citrus, bread, jam, strawberry, blood orange. Very foamy, creamy mouthfeel. Medium body with a funky dryness in the finish. Very good combination between the hoppy bitterness and malty sweetness.

Aroma is plum, cherry, any number of dark fruits, light sourness/acidity, sweet caramel. Appearance is golden amber with enormous frothy off white head. Taste is cherry forward with plum and dark fruits. Some sourness and light acidity. Sweetness from the malt is nice but this is a fruity beer. Palate is light and crisp. Dry but some residual sugars still. Cherries linger in the mouth with the Brett. Overall an amazing beer. One you need to try. Changes with age as the Brett continues to ferment and evolve. This was about 2 years old and there was plenty of sweetness left in the bottle..... would love to try one all dried out after 5 years or so. Really a fun and one of a kind beer.
