COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.

Purchased at Breeze Thru Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed while nursing a bum elbow after a long day at work...needed a nice treat. Appearance is like a magical potion, dark orange/amber with a rich, frothy white head, tons of tiny carbonation bubbles rising to the top. Aroma has a lot going on. There’s a flood of fruity esters mixed with floral hops, mixed in with a complex Belgian yeast, also has a sour/stinky cheese like quality in the nose. Outstanding smell. Taste is extremely complex. Starts slightly tart, becomes increasingly bready, finishes with a slight citrus hops flavor but retains the tart/bread qualities. There’s not much anyone could change about this brew, it’s been brewed for the better half of a century to near perfection. For my style it doesn’t get a 5, but it definitely is one of the best all around beers I’ve ever had.

330ml bottle. Russet shade with a big, fluffy trappist-style head. Complex aroma of earthiness, spices, raisins, orange peel and malts. Doesn’t jump out of the glass but still demands attention. On the tongue it has some of the classic creaminess of a quad without the heavy mouthfeel, and Belgian yeast is very prominent, particularly as it finishes. A very intriguing beer, hard to categorise and difficult to decipher at times, but it did enough to win me over.

Fazit: Sehr Lecker! Test vom 28.11.2010, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,13,12,12,12,12 - 12,15

Malty, dry, hazy beer with a wild white head. Fizzy and dry. Taste like bread, farm and wood as well. Delicious in the sunshine.

Bottle. light in color, slightly cloudy, and has a large, foamy head. There is a complex aroma of leather, spice, and many other earthy components

Bottle from Purvis Cellars in a tulip glass. Thick, pillowy, two finger head with great retention. Rich golden orange colour. Malty aroma. Malt notes up front carry over from the aroma, a slightly bitter middle, and a creamy aftertaste. Lively carbonation and a slightly dry feel.

Good. The nose is a little barny with notes of fruit and light floral hops. The beer is a unique copper orange with a lasting white head. The taste is fruity with biscuitike malts and floral hops and some underlying barnyard notes. The beer is very dry and crisp.
