Appearance: Dark brown, fine beige-white head. Some visible carbonation. Aroma: Very grassy, hints of banana, orange, cloves. Not bad. Palate: Smooth, on the thick-end of being medium bodied. Creamy. Nice finish. Taste: sweet. not bitter or sour at all. The taste is fantastic. Complex. Tons of notes of fruits. Berries, bananas. Spices - cloves, cinnamon. Notes of vanilla. Alcohol taste is there, but is faint compared to other flavours. Amazing beer.

Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a lasting cream colored head. Aroma is wood, sweet dark fruits, clove, and some bread. Taste is raisin, spice, wood, and just a hint of alcohol. Lively carbonation. Very good.

A perfect beer. Strikingly Belgian in flavoring and spices, with nuttiness and malt flavor. Strong but not heavy, in some ways feels like a dark tripel with the malt subbing in for the fruitiness typical of that style. An absolute delight from a brewery that never seems to miss.

Interesting brew. Poured into a snifter from a 2011 bottle. Nearly opaque red brown with a short lived off white head. Smells of Belgian yeast, fig, raisin, vanilla. Tastes like many dried fruits, including apricot, apple, grape. Lots of subtle oak is woven throughout, creating further complexity and a wonderful taste. Finishes with black pepper. Pairs very well with strawberry shortcake! Great beer!

Pours dark brown with highly carbed off white head very tight. Aroma mixed fruit and sugars. Taste very much going on, alchohol...dark fruit and caramel...not bad dark strong.

750mL corked and caged, Bottled in 2011 Grande Reserve from Olive Tree Market in OB. Clear reddish brown with moderate two finger beige head, pretty good retention. House Unibroue yeast up front with some raisin and toasted malts. Lots and lots of clean oak notes present. Flavor is still pretty strong with the oak, but goes really well with the Belgian yeast--almost refreshing, really, in its freshness. A little surprising, as there’s so much, and I was under the assumption that French Oak was more subtle than the heavy handed American oak. Dry finish with bitterness peaking at a 2, a little alcohol noted. Aftertaste of some dusty raisins, tinge of roast. Medium high carbonation with a medium body. very solid, though pretty heavy on the oak, which didn’t bother me.

750 ml corked and caged, Grand Reserve 17 bottled in 2011. Pours amber brown with a 2" cream colored head. Very lively carbonation, lacing all around the glass. Nose is candied fruits, caramel, nutty, very Belgia-like. Taste is the same, malty with a slight earthiness, a slight bitter finish. Very nicely done. I would say this is one of the better Belgian strong ales I’ve had in awhile.

Candied plums, raisins, figs, allspice on the nose. Murky brown, thick yellow head, minimal lacing. Medium body. Flavor is less distinctly fruity. Malty with vague fig notes. Somewhat milquetoast.

dmac (2658) - Toms River, New Jersey, USA - MAY 16, 2012
750 ml cork and caged bottle, purchased from Spirits Toms River. Poured a murky muddy chestnut brown with a huge foamy light beige head that took forever to settle down. Aroma starts off with loads and loads of Belgian yeast, brown bread, fruitiness, dry chalkiness. Thin to medium body with very bubbly carbonation and slight heat on the backend. Flavor of Belgian yeast, brown bread, nutts, grains. Solid beer.

Bottle. Aroma is sweet malts with notes of dark fruit and spicy yeast. Palate is well carbonated and dry. Flavor is sweet, but finishes dry. Pretty impressive.

Bottled. WOW! This is a spectacular beer. Very yeast driven aroma. I taste a subtle raisin flavor that bounces across my tongue. All in all a perfect beer!
