COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Draught at the pub St-Patrick, St-Alexandre and Cafe du Temps Perdu. Also several times from the bottle. Deep black. Coffee, chocolate, roastiness, oatmeal, cereals/grainy, caramel and a good hop presence (especially in the finish). Extremely creamy, heavy, visquous, almost oily. Amazing with dark bitter chocolate. A complex, yet very drinkable stout! Cheap and easily available year-round in the majority of beer stores and supermarket.

Pours nearly jet black with only the slightest hints of deep cola brown around the edges, a fat finger of tan head diminishing gradually to a thin skim, and moderate lacing. Nose is coffee, chocolate, caramel, slightly smokey. Taste follows suit with a mild molasses sweetness tempering roasted malt and bitter coffee. Full body and low carbonation, with a creamy mouth feel and dry finish. Now that’s a stout - this is what Guinness wishes it was. (Yes, I once gave Guinness the same rating I’m giving this one. That was then, this is now. Deal with it. I’ll re-review a Guinness sometime and put it where it belongs.) I’d love to have this on a nitro tap to really amp up the creaminess, but it’s pretty decent just as it is. The oatmeal definitely tempers the flavour, giving it a fuller, rounder aspect. This can rightly take its place as one of the best Canadian beers around.

Smells great with a hint of dark chocolate, smooth taste not much of an after taste. Those that like darker beers would enjoy.

On tap at the brewery terrace as part of a 12$ tasting set. A cola black pour with red highlights and a creamy tan head. Rich cocoa and toasted oats aroma. Smooth creamy body and a fairly full mouthfeel. The taste is quite roasty, a bit of coffee grounds, cocoa an toasted/roasted malts. Very nice, seems like a restrained use of black patent malts.

From 473 ml can. Pour is pitchblack with huge tan head. Nose is roasted malts with chocolate and dark chocolate notes. Some light caramel sweetness, too. A little metallic. Favours are again roasted malts with a punch of sourness. Long metallic finish with light bitterness. Pretty light body. Solid oatmeal stout, but I expected more.

Thought I would review an old favourite. For a 6-pack with an MSRP of $9.99, this is a hell of a beer, and my go-to stout. It looks great: jet black with a frothy tan head. It smells great: coffee, chocolate, caramel. It tastes great: chocolate, caramel and a bit of treacle, with beautiful bitter coffee finish. Certainly nothing revolutionary, but a really well-executed oatmeal stout, at a terrific price point.

Beautiful black pour w/ a big mocha head that leaves lacing. The aroma is a great blend between chocolate & roasted notes. The taste is quite similar as it mixes bitterness & sweetness exceptionally! It feels light & creamy on the palate. This is one damn good stout!

Une référence depuis tant d’années... J’adore l’équilibre là-dedans; il y a juste assez de tout. C’est bon, point à la ligne!

Draft - Nitro - bitter chocolate and roast malts. Jet black with a rich creamy light brown head. Chocolate, coffee and roast malts with a creamy light bitter finish. Very nice as usual from these guys.

Can. A nice, well-balanced stout, the obligatory hints of coffee, nice foam and gentle finish.

Poured from a bottle that had a twist off cap. I did not expect such an amazing beer from that, but wow. This is what an oatmeal stout is supposed to be like. Color is jet black and completely opaque with a dark brown head. Aroma is smoky with roasted notes of coffee and chocolate. Taste is malty, but not too sweet. Nice slick and full mouthfeel. Great beer.
