4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 jebert (404) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 31, 2012Ebony colored, this beer folds into the glass with a small light brown head mostly dissipating. Very creamy on the palate with a thick viscosity. Taste explodes in the mouth with a profusion of dark roasted malts, coffee, molasses and a hint of rye whiskey. Slight bitterness on the finish. Great alone or pair it with a brat off the grill.

12 oz. bottle as a local trade bonus. Thanks, Jeff! Pours a deep brown color with a small beige head. Distinct whiskey barrel character throughout- vanilla, coconut, brown sugar, oak, caramel, roasted malts, and chocolate. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, roasty mouthfeel. A little thinned, but very good.

Slutfest 2013: Tobacco and rye bread aroma. Cola colored, thick tan head. Flavor transitions from tobacco to ash to creosote. Fairly nice, but has a tanginess that seems very out of place for this style of beer. It’s ok.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Butters (3318) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - APR 13, 2013
Sampled at Slutfest 4 - Sexytime! Dark brown pour with ring of tan head. Malty roasty and hint of marshmellow and molasses. Sweet and semi whiskey note, but totally smooth. Pretty good.

Pours black, brown at edges. Aroma is lightly of chocolate and coffee. Flavor is similar. Bit of vanilla on the finish. Just a touch rough. But not bad at all.

Smells like whiskey. No bite, very smooth. Well balanced for a barrel aged beer. Woody smell in the aroma.

A touch fruity, thick dark chocolate, smooth toffee, sweet caramel malty, whiskey flavor that’s easily to drink and very smooth.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ThirstyBird (416) - Düsseldorf, GERMANY - MAR 14, 2013
Old rating from 2010. Pours super dark opaque black/brown with almost no head just a little tan ring. Big rye barrel nose, sweet dark malt, coconut. Less rye barrel in the taste, lots of sweet dark malt with a dry finish. Medium body with nice fine carbonation...a smooth drinker.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 drjay44 (2126) - Salida, Colorado, USA - MAR 3, 2013
12 oz. bottle. Pours a thin rapidly dissipating, beige head, over a clear, very dark brown (SRM 35) body....nose is light Whiskey, chocolate, light coffee, hints of vanilla.....taste is light Whiskey, chocolate, rye spice, medium lingering toffee/caramel sweetness, finishing with a moderate hop, roasted malt bitterness....mouth feel medium, soft, slightly chewy, mildly astringent, alcohol hidden, carbonation adds light tingle. This is a well balanced beer. The Whiskey barrels were used with a light hand, and add depth rather than dominating. The malts are deftly used with the heavy chocolate, cocoa tones offset by minor coffee at the finish. The rye adds that bit of mysterious complexity. The only flaw is the moderate, but lingering sweetness. This is a lovely beer. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7
