COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Golden naked oats mashed with dark crystal and robust roasted malts create a luscious black brew with a satin smooth finish. Layering UK Target hops in the boil adds a pleasant, earthy complexity while higher fermentation temperatures enhance the overall flavor with fruity esters. An old-world style, done the Green Flash way. Big, bold, flavorful and complex – Double Stout.

glennmastrange (1638) - hobe sound, USA - JAN 6, 2012
Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt aromas of dark bread, toasted cereal, and chocolate milk, faint resin and earth for the hops and yeast, with a hint of toffee in the background. Head is average size, creamy and foamy, light brown with good yet slipery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is almost completely black. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Palateis medium to full, creamy with a soft carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish. The aroma of theis beer is amazing, bold with rounded edges is the best way I can describe it. Everything else in this brew rates right up there with the best Stouts.

Pours black with a 2 finger, creamy mocha head that has great retention and leaves some pretty nice lacing. Aroma is intensely nutty, along with some chocolate, coffee, char, roasted oats, earth, a little leather, licorice, light smoke. Flavor is big on chocolate, some day old coffee, woody notes, a little smoke, lots of roast, light resinous and planty hops, hints of dark fruit and a light, pleasant alcohol presence. Palate is medium bodied, with a creamy entry, off dry, slightly chalky finish and light, but blanketing carbonation. Very nice, the char notes are a bit on the lingering and bitter side, but other than that this is a damn fine beer.

Beautifully integrated foreign stout. Not a rough edge. This is right up there with Sinha in my book. Pity the aroma doesn’t promise as much as the rest of the package delivers. Perfect appearance: impenetrable teak colour with a generous souffle head. The aroma is fine but unremarkable - nice roasted malts, Milo and some nose-prickling all-spice. Terrific palate - thick and creamy. In the mouth it’s bitter and tarry but smooth as George Sanders on the make. Tobacco notes. Nice warming finish. Lovely stuff. (12 fl oz bottle from Down Under Cellars, Leura.)

Bottle from Ølbutikken. Pours black with a nice brown head. Aroma is focused on the malts - coffee, cocoa, chocolate brownie, nice note of pure chocolate malt "straight from the bag", English liquorice, nice and grassy alpha acid hoppiness. Taste is very roasted and bitter - it's obvious that this beer has a high percentage of roasted malts. Lots of coffee, burnt caramel, ashy, tarmac, lots of hoppy bitterness. A bit of malt sweetness and caramel notes to balance out, although the main expression this beer remains roasted and hoppy. Pretty much what a strong American stout should taste like.

Draft. Opaque with a thick dark head. Big black notes. Burnt toast. Charcoal. Tire fire. Burned popcorn. Truffles. Black pepper. Good stuff. Medium full body. Despite the darkness it has a unexpectedly smooth finish. Nice to find a big black stout that is not all about coffee!

Pours dark black with tan head. Aroma is coffee and dark roasty malts. Super smooth texture is the first thing I notice, kinda creamy. Coffee, Roast malts, piney hops, plum. Lively carbonation, medium body. Really good stuff. Need to re visit when I’m not incredibly stuffed up.
