4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 EHouse (163) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 12, 20122012: Pours a deep ebony with a thick tan head. Huge aroma of milk chocolate with a hint of fruitiness (sherry?). Creamy smooth body with huge milk chocolate flavor. Slight hint of fruit (blackberry?) and espresso. Finish is long and smooth with a slight warmth coming from the alcohol. This is phenomenal. I need a vanilla sundae!!!

2012 vintage, 22 oz bomber into a teku glass. Long time want here!
A - Pours a dark, dark brown body. Two fingers of khaki foam dissipates into a thin edging. Some solid lacing, pretty typical looking porter.
S - Lots of roast up front followed by some dark fruits and ripe cherries. On the end is smooth oak and vanilla and some dark brown sugar. Touch of alcohol. Each ingredient is present but not gimmicky and just accents the base beer. This is a thing of beauty! Those cherries though, so subtle and just perfect with the right balance of sweet and spice.
T - Bitter roasted malts and some ash and char. The cherries are bit more "dark fruit" than the nose here. Light oak and vanilla. Not as sweet as the nose as it returns to char and ash on the finish. Somewhat syrupy but a creamy carbonation helps to cut through that.
O - Absolutely loved the aroma on this. Maybe its due to the few months it has on it but the taste was not as impressive. Still, an extremely solid beer that lived up to my personal hype. The ingredients are just perfect here. This and their Smoked Porter are just wildly impressive beers to me.

On draught at the Amsterdam Cafe in San Francisco. Black with a temporary brown head. Smoky aroma. Deep chocolate malt and smoky roast, very nice. Hint of mint. Excellent, if a little boozy.

Thanks to Keir and Free Beer Week for this one. Black, thin brown head. Smells sweet fruity, and chocolatey. Flavor is kinda like a German chocolate cake - sweet chocolatey notes combine with nicely fruity flavors, very rich and satisfying. I dig it.

Bottle pours a brown/black with a thick tan top. Scent is malty, dark fruits, chocolate, and roasty. Taste follows nose with a sweet roastiness followed by a roasty bitter finish. Outstanding brew!

Bottle shared with friends. This was an 08’ vintage. Wow! This beer was a total dream for me. It was everything I hoped it could be. The aging has only done this beer wonders. Very nice charred chocolate taste along with some vanilla to boot. Any boozy flavors have pretty much disappeared but doesn’t have that "mellowed" out feeling. Fantastic!

Sampled at a bottleshare. Mostly clear, dark brown color. Good thin khaki head. Loose lace. Some wood. Dark fruit. Roast, little vanilla. Bigger body. Light carbonation. More dry. Sweet taste. Vanilla, roast malts in the finish. Tasty stuff.

Pours black with a medium brown head. Aroma is light cherry cough syrup, vanilla,, chocolate, and a hint of roasted coffee. Taste is much the same. Hides the alcohol really well, good balance.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 dreadnord (995) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Pours dark and black with a small brown head that recedes quickly. The nose is as the label states. Cherries, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, licorice and wood. The taste is so complex. Sweet and bitter but even 30 seconds after the drink it continues to change in waves. The mouthfeel is silky and smooth, the body is heavy and the finish is long.
