Cloudy deep chestnut pour with a smallish creamy tan head. Slightly lactic dry aroma with wood resin, alcohol, sweet malt and lush, floral bitterness - juicy and very mouthwatering, even to someone well into his third straight day of beer festival mainlining, grimly determined to power through as many last-day ratings as possible - THIS one demanded time be taken to appreciate it. The taste was as promised - Oaky, somewhat boozy, but balanced out by citrus bitterness and fruity roast caramel malt sweetness - very appealing, not much vanilla/bourbon, thank goodness. Somewhat boozy, slick mouthfeel, with some astringency from the oak, but smooth-finishing, a real orange rind tingle left on the tongue too. Yum-my! blankboy (3263), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours a murky orange-brown with a small lasting beige head. Aroma of caramel malt and bourbon along with some hops, toffee, wood and dark fruit. Flavour’s sweet and malty along with dark fruit, wood and just enough bourbon. Alcohol’s well hidden. Medium bodied. Excellent stuff. hanniku (12), Jyväskylä, Finland

Abundant sweetish aroma with the strong tones of wine, raisins, vanilla, bourbon, wood, caramel and fruityness. A rich and intense flavor follows much the aroma. The warming notes of alcohol are modestly present both in aroma and in flavor. Long sweetish aftertaste. An enjoyable and complex barrel-aged Barley Wine, merci beaucoup Marc!
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 16, 2009 Murky brown in colour with a thin beige head, light lacing. The aroma is lightly hopped, sweet with noticable alcohol, woody with some sweetness. The flavour is a bit watery and thin, high amounts of alcohol, some hops and a caramel sweetness. Bitter mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. The finishes is the weirdest part of this beer, some hops but total alcohol domination.
A very light bodied barley wine. Syrupy, lack of balance and tons of alcohol.
