COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that itís a great cigar beer, but I havenít yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editorís Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences seperates the beers. Itís essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

Opened a bottle of 2008. Most of the bourbon has gone. The aroma is still a big bold stout with caramel, malt and some coffee but the bourbon is absent. Taste is sweet roasted malt, coffee, molasses and some bourbon. Very mellowed. No alcohol. Very little carbonation left but the heavy mouthfeel remains. Itís still excellent but I think past itís prime. Bottle says it ages for 5 years but 2-3 is best in my experience.

2013 tap at the Tap House, IL. Black with light brown ring. Smokey, vanilla, woody bourbon, alcohol and caramel. Tastes dry with a smokey aftertaste. Body is heavy with a sticky feel.

This beer made me sleep like a baby I even forgot to rate it while drinking it last night. The aroma was just fantastic. Definitely charred oak and vanilla came to mind as I sipped down this thick full bodied monster. I loved it more as I drank the glass half full. Carmel and light notes of chocolate splashed my tongue along with the bourbon smoke to it. Very interesting IMO beings I havenít had this beer in any version before. Just loved it! Cheers

I am not sure if I can add anything to the overly numerous reviews. This is a splendid, solid stout. Incredibly high ABV -- yet not boozy at all. Recommended, highly.

On tap. Black pour with small dark beige head. Aroma of malts, caramel, vanilla, oak, chocolate, faint coffee, touch of smoke and faint bourbon. Taste of roasted malts, caramel, sweetened chocolate, hint of smoke, touch of coconut, and a nice bourbon finish in the far background. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel, perfectly balanced, absolutely delicious!!

2/7 (Home) - 2014 Bottle. Have been a big fan of this beer since the first time Iíve had it. Whiskey is my non beer alcohol of choice. Distinct whiskey and carmel smell and taste is what I love about this beer. The beer is very strong, and pleasant to drink, The texture is smooth, and the blend of flavors works very well. Excellent beer and I look forward to continued drinking of the stout, and their other offerings (have a BC coffee on tap)!

Bourbon aged barrels give this stout a unique twist. Better served at room temp vs chilled. Definitely good with a cigar. Very strong and sip slow. Highly enjoyable session!
