COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pliny the Elder was a Roman naturalist, scholar, historian, traveler, officer, and writer. Although not considered his most important work, Pliny and his contemporaries created the botanical name for hops, "lupus Salictarius", meaning wolf among scrubs." Hops at that time grew wild among willows, much like a wolf in the forest. Later the current botanical name, humulus Lupulus, was adopted. Pliny died in 79 AD while observing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. He was immortalized by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, who continued his uncle’s legacy by documenting much of what he observed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pliny the Elder, the beer, is brewed with 40% more malt and over twice the amount of hops as compared to our already hoppy IPA.

Bottle at Beer Temple. Orange golden pour with cirtus, pine aroma. Fresh grapefruit and citrus in the flavour. A great IPA but a little too highly rated.

16oz bottle courtesy of NorCalgrowler, great lacing and lighter than expected pour, taste is hoppy with that definitive west coast feel however it feels like a dated IIPA instead of a modern take on the style hype could be holding this up, I’ll drink the second one soon to tell bottled 1/12

pours clear golden brown with small amount of white head nose is piney anf floral, maybe centennial hops? taste is more towards bitter then balanced, toast and pine on the palate. nice mouthfeel, not overly syrupy. no cloying sweetness, very good double ipa! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled two weeks ago. Other than very plain appearance (yellow, no head or lace) this beer rocks because all parts come together with remarkable harmony. It’s both forward and restrained. Aroma of clear but woven grapefruit, pine and citrus...an archetype? Tastes sweet and biscuity with some citrus hops then cleanly and mouthwatering bitterness that lingers. Feels oily with soft carbonation.

Great hoppy nose, very fresh and vibrant. Light and almost too easy to drink. Firm bitterness. Fruity and tasty. I like it.

The most awesome beer ever made. It is one of my all time favorites but it is so hard to find. Hoppy and so smooth I could drink a bottle in a minute. If I ever get the chance to get more I will.

BIT-TER! Honey colored with a reasonable foam. Grassy and hop folled aroma. Good herbal hop flavor with a solid, balancing malt ass. Tasty but leaves me underwhelmed.
