COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pliny the Elder was a Roman naturalist, scholar, historian, traveler, officer, and writer. Although not considered his most important work, Pliny and his contemporaries created the botanical name for hops, "lupus Salictarius", meaning wolf among scrubs." Hops at that time grew wild among willows, much like a wolf in the forest. Later the current botanical name, humulus Lupulus, was adopted. Pliny died in 79 AD while observing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. He was immortalized by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, who continued his uncleís legacy by documenting much of what he observed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pliny the Elder, the beer, is brewed with 40% more malt and over twice the amount of hops as compared to our already hoppy IPA.

Yeah, so, um, this stuff is amazing. I finally got my hands on one and thank God because it was worth the hype. Deep gold in color with slight head that leaves nice lacing. Hops hit my nose as soon as I opened the bottle (citrus/pine). Full mouth feel, the head is even a bit creamy, very awesome. This is one of the best beers Iíve ever had. I have to give it perfects all around.

Nice light orange color with a one finger head. Aroma is tropical fruits, citrus and slight pine. Taste is well balanced between citrus, bitter and sweet. A great IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from my friend from his vacation in USA. Smell is very hoppy and grassy. Pours clear orange with a medium white head. Very nice taste. Very hoppy and very sweet. The high ABV is not noticeable and the beer places itself nicely in mouth. Overall a really nice beer which lives up to the hype and its myth.

From bottle. First time Iíve actually every got to try it. Found it (from back) at local grocery store. Wanted to know if it would live up to all the hype - of course it couldnít. Great beer, nice hoppiness, but mellow finish. Donít know that itís worth over $5 per pt. in a bottle, but itís a definite top 10 for me.

On tap. Deep yellow cloudy pour with a nice thin lacy head. Aroma of vanilla, both citrus and faint piney hops. Extremely drinkable despite the high ABV. Earns its reputation.

Overrated. Green Flash West Coast IPA and especially Maharja are way better than this. Too much hype, not that good.

Have had many times in bottle only. Great color on pour - a golden orange sunset. It's a great double IPA with a thunderous amount of hops. However, it is an over rated IPA. I've had better.

Draught & bottle at Russian River. Deservedly ranked as one of the best, nice piney aroma, really drinkable for the ABV. Top class stuff.

Draught > Russian River. God damn this is good. It's not La Cumbre Dank but it's f'ing good. Right up there next to Maine Lunch. Dry as hell and light. Pretty darn easy drinker. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Found it on tap when out with a good friend from out of town. It was nice to share the experience of drinking one of the best beers in the world - it lived up to the hype ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
