4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle date 7/10/08
Pours hazy, pale gold with a two inch head of porous white. A few dots and streaks cling to the glass after the retreat, and a partial skim coat remained.
Aromatics are a pungent blend of fruit, pine, alcohol, and malt.
Spruce bark, peach skins, mango pulp, orange zest, and sugar-dusted grapefruit.
Mild malt notes mingle with a slight alcohol waft.
On the chewy side of medium bodied, with a sticky, almost sappy mouthfeel. Still very dry and crisp though.
Bitter citrus fruits and light malt lead off the pallet. Grapefruit, pine resin, orange rind, and mangoe pit.
Somewhat earthy and leafy, with a persisting, drying bitterness.
A grapefruit at the foot of a pine tree.
Finishes with some warming alcohol stepping through the lupulus, and lingering, drying bitter citrus.
Incredibly drinkable and very dry. The biiterness is right at the threshold of cutting back on the drinkability.
Great to see this fine brew in bottles.
More mad props go out to BA RblWthACoz for such a great trade!

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
What can I say about Pliny the Elder that hasn’t been said by better thinkers and drinkers than me? It’s freakishly balanced? Nope, someone’s sure to have said that. It’s the perfect mix of spicy, fruity, grassy, piney, and citrusy hops? Nah, someone’s definitely mentioned that. It’s delicious. Got me, again. I’m at a loss on this one. I just want more. Someone give me more.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Thanks Stefan "StefanSD")
A- Citrus, hoppy, cheese, floral, stone fruits.
A- Amber color, hazy liquid, white head.
T- Bitter, citrus, pine, balanced.
P- Medium body, average texture, medium carbonation, smooth balanced finish.
O- First off I have to give a huge thanks to Stefan for not only sending me this but sending me a fresh bottle. Had it only two weeks after bottling. I am also not an IPA fan so this made me nervous, thinking I’m drinking one of the best beers in the world and I might not like it. Well, true to myself, I personally wouldn’t rate this as one of the best in the world, but for an IPA, this was solid, and one I could drink, and not want it to be over. Very balanced and a very good representation of what I wish this style would be more like.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Pizza Port, OB. Fresh, resinous pine and grapefruit peel, with lemon and apricot accents. Clear gold under a lasting, pristine, lacy sheet. Flavour is extremely hoppy with tons of apricot and grapefruit pith and assertive bitterness is not over the top. Malt backbone is base malt with some carapils silkiness. Medium body, medium carbonation, midway between crisp and smooth.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from a very friendly guy. Hoppy smell with citrus and tropical fruits. In the background I find a malty aroma going towards cookies. Similar taste with a sweet cookie and caramel finish. Very easy to drink with a high "hinkability". No harshness at all. It feels like the hops are a bit aged even though the bottle was just over a month old. Still a great beer though. Nice to see a beer that lives up to the hype.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
(Russian River Pliny the Elder) Bottle 510 ml, from a trade with stawn, thanks! Served into a shaker, ABV 8%. 26 days old.
Bright golden orange colour on the body, clear. Good sized white head, thick enough with very good retention, leaving heavy lacing on the glass/
Great aroma with lots of citrus, pine, floral notes.grapefruit, some tropical fruits too.
Great taste, even better than the aroma I dare say. Lots of fresh hops, lots of pine, plenty of floral notes, still some citrus and grapefruit, , some fruity touches on the very finish. Not an extremely bitter one, instead one with a well balanced bitterness, and a long-lasting one.
Medium body, mildly dry on the palate. Nicely carbonated. Extremely high drinkability.
Great beer, words fail me.
