Kasteel Rouge is a blend of Kasteel Donker and cherry liquor. The mix of these two excellent products creates an exceptional soft beer with references to the dark mother beer.

330ml bottle into a tulip. Pours a clear deep ruby red with a half finger reddish-tan head. Decent head retention forming a thin cap over the beer but lacing is practically nonexistent. Aroma is nearly all cherries. Very reminiscent of cherry Kool-Aid. There are some Belgian Lambic undertones, however, with horse blanket and barnyard letting you know this isn’t a soft drink. Really a unique, inviting aroma. Flavor carries over the characteristics of the aroma with sweet cherry juice along with tartness contributed by the cherries. However underneath the cherry is barnyard funk very typical of a Lambic. This serves to well balance out the fruit and add complexity. While this beer is on the sweet side it never gets cloying and the tartness really helps drinkability. Finish is only slightly sticky and a little drying. Overall, I am very impressed with this beer and wish I would have opened it up over the summer when it was warmer. The alcohol is nowhere to be found and this is really a guzzler. I really need to seek out some more Krieks and see how this stacks up.

In Darma Bar in northern Israel. Pour from bottle. A cherry bomb on the nose. Taste is also slightly sour cherry. Can't see myself having more than one at a time, but kinda like it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bue 1 an et demi avant DLC en Dorfogne avec JM, Manou et Thomas. Biere rougeatre, brune a tres forte carbo. Pas de col de mousse. Arome cerise tres fort. Enbiuche, cremeuse, sucree. Final cerise, caramel sans amertume. Tres ressembkante a une kriek mais sans l’acidite. Bien aime !

Review based on the BJCP2015 style guidelines (style 29A/26D). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 1029A. AROMA: predominant with medium-high intensity aroma of artifical cherry syrup. APPEARANCE: dark ruby color and clear. medium pink head with low retention. TASTE: high cherry syrup flavor with an artificial character, masking the underlying base beer. medium sweet background. finishes semi-dry. PALATE: medium-low body with moderate carbonation. OVERALL: a beer that resembles cherry syrup.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2016 A classic that has lost nothing of its old glory. Cherry aroma, lovely taste, good mouthfeel and great aftertaste. Maybe a bit too cherry-ish for me, but for now and then: great.

Bottle. Reddish brown with a quite large off white head which has a slight pink colouring. Not a long living head though. Cherry aroma with notes of marzipan. Sweet cherry flavour with a nice tart finish. For fans of cherry this is pretty good.

Bottle. Pours deep red brown with beige head. This is a cherry beer with aroma of cherries and only slightly malty, and taste... cherries! Notes of malt comes through in the end though. Balance is very pleasant sour and sweet and dry.

Quite a different taste from your normal beers. Fruity is an understatement. Nevertheless, it has a good mix of beer and cherry liquer.

Dark red-brown pour with pinkish head. In the aroma nearly only cherry, and also the taste is dominated by sour cherries, besides caramel and sweet fruits. No depth. Not my cup of tea...
