4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 brewandbbq (269) - Manchester, USA - JAN 16, 2009
Bottle shared by BA Barleywinebrewer..Thanks Bill!
Pours burnished, dark brown, with tinges of ruby edging and almost opaque. A beige head of one inch faded quickly, with a few errant dots of lacework.
Aromatics lead off with earth-dusted sour cherries, spice, and leather-wrapped wood.
Hints of Rosemary, Thyme, and mint add a wonderfull complexity.
Some firm acidity developes quickly, as well as bits of bitter chocolate, vanilla, and oaky tannins. A wine-like vineousity pulls through in the finish.
Medium bodied, sharp on the pallet, and crisp. Slightly creamy as well.
Cherry pits, dusty boards, peppery spice, and balsamic start the pallet. An herbal, earthy quality steps forward. Peppermint, Rosemary, Thyme, and white pepper.
Ripe malt and dark fruit follow though, with lingering acidity.
Finishes with herb infused balsamic, burnt leather, tart cherries, earth-covered wood, and a lingering vineousity.
Wowza, great beer. It tastes like a blend of Cuvee de Tomme and 10 Commandments.
Regardless, the pedigree screams Judgement day.

From bottle at Sour & Bitter 2012. It pours very dark brown, with a decent beige head. The nose is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, funk, toffee, dark fruit, balsamic vinegar, almond, toasted coconut and vanilla. The taste is lemon, grapefruit, Granny Smith apple, dark fruit, moderate acidity, some underlying roasted malt and charcoal flavours and balsamic vinegar. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Very well balanced. This is not usually my favourite sour style, but this one was great!

Bottle sample at Sour&Bitter Copenhagen 2012. Bottle looks awesome. Beer in the glass very dark, almost black, small head. Sour-fruity aroma, like plum. Starts mild sour, fruity-dry, but then more and more dry, also more sour. Dusty-dry. Nevertheless quite well balanced. Sourish finish. Good!

Past its prime.

Bottle @ S&B. Dark brown pour, small head. Aroma is awesome! A blend of tobacco, chrerries, chocolate, oak barrel, some caramel, a bit of brett presence, slightly lactic. Taste is fairly brett forward, barnyard, some lactic sourness, sour cherries, not much sweetness aside from a hint of caramel and cherry. Slightly thin carbonation and body. But a good fucken beer anywhore.
