4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 MadMan (497) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JAN 4, 2009375ml corked bottle. Pours a deep and dark opaque red with short lived cola colored head. Aroma is sour, musty, and cherry and fruit. Flavor is very complex, I couldn’t keep it in my mouth long enough to soak it all in. Initially it hits with a nice sourness and tartness, very like a Rodenbach grand cru, with some hints of fresh cherry and vinegar (possibly malt vinegar as well as balsamic) then blends in with a malty sweetness, possibly lightly cocoa and faintly spicy. It has some funk underneath all the sourness, as well as some woody boozy notes. There was little evidence of alcohol. The finish is delightfully complex, lingering with lots of sour/sweetness, with notes of wood, vanilla, malt, spice, and balsamic. I savored each sip to the fullest, yet my glass was soon empty, and even then I found myself inhaling the remnant aromas coming out of my empty glass and cherishing them. I couldn’t bring myself to rinse it out, the aromas from the empty glass reminding me of the delightfully sour and complex flavors in this one. I can’t wait to have another, I haven’t been motivated to input a rating in some time until this one came along.

Aromas of chocolate, toasted nuts, sour yeast, dark fruits, cherries, and dank earth. Dark brown with bronze highlights, and a small, fading, tan head. Sour, roasty, fruity, dry, and earthy. Medium-full body, low-moderate carbonation with a bright tingling sensation coming from the sour yeast strain(s), and finishes with roasty, earthy, funky notes. Delicious!

Bottle. Been saving this review for a rainy day. Bottle compliments of my old lost abbey connect Alen. Thanks for sending this as an extra! Poured a beautiful murky sienna brown with a small to med off white head. Stood around forever and left behind some rings of lace. Aromas and flavor are dusty oak, lactic yeast, sour berries and cherries, rich malt, and funk. As it wamred in my glass it got super rich and complex, lots of dark cherry balanced out by the oaky smoothness and light carbonation. Excellent sour from Tomme.

Pours unclear and quite murky brown with almost no head. The aroma brings some tart and sour yeast notes. The flavor is quite sour as well, bringing a pleasant tartness and phenolic notes as well, quite nice. The body is just right, full and bringing a puckering to the cheeks.

Shared at a Lost Abbey sour tasting. Poured a dark cloudy red color with a small off-white head. Aroma was tart cherries with a nice funk note to it. Funky, with barrel notes that rounded this one out pretty well.

Tasted on 7/2/12 from a corked and caged 375mL bottle obtained in a trade. Pours an opaque, dark cola brown with an amber tint and a thin tan head that slowly recedes to thin lace. The nose is a nice combination of brown sugar, caramel, dark bread, and a lactic sour lemon peel note. The flavor is much more sour with the lemon and acidity dominating, and the darker malt flavors more in the background. The body is medium with sticky tannins, just lighter than average carbonation and a long, super sour and malty dark chocolate finish.
