Some of the oak casks at Samuel Smith’s date back more than a century with the individual oak staves being replaced by the Old Brewery coopers over the years. Gradually the casks soak in more & more of the character of the ale fermented in stone Yorkshire squares. Yorkshire Stingo is aged for at least a year, matured in these well-used oak casks in the brewery’s underground cellars deriving fruit, raisin, treacle toffee, Christmas pudding and slight oaky flavours, before being further naturally conditioned in bottle.

Pours a deep amber with a coarse tan head. Aroma is toffee, dark fruits, light coffee and nice oaky notes with some acidity. Soft body with flavors of dark fruits, toffee, oak, touches of nuttiness with creamy milk chocolate ending. No noticeable alcohol with it being 9%. Solid beer.

Bottle, 8% ABV, bb 7/15. 11C. Darkish amber with a modest beige head that lasts pretty well. Boozy aroma with prunes, raisins, toffee, oak, fruitcake spices, white pepper. Sweet and luscious with some Madeira-like flavours. Toffee, dark fruits, spices. Finish is quite bitter and oaky with enough spices to relieve the sweetness. Been wanting to try this one for ages and only the price wasn’t what I’d hoped.

Pours an opaque brown/red with a medium tan head. Aroma has lots of dark fruit, toffe, caramel, sherry and a bit of booze. Flavor follows suit...toffee really stands out...lots of oakiness and earthy bitterness. Mouthfeel is full and silky with a dry earthy/oaky finish that hints at dark fruits.

Ruby brown appearance. Mild toffee caramel aroma. Taste is some easy going dark fruits and toffee. Nice English style ale here.

Butelka do 06.2015. Kolor miedziany, piana obfita. Aromaty słodowe, suszone owocowe, cherry. Alkohol lekko rozgrzewający przy przełtkaniu, przyjemne odczucie.

550ml bottle. Deep amber appearance, a bit hazy, with a medium white head. Aroma is overripe fruits, malt, brown sugar, toffee. Flavour is medium sweet, raisin, prunes, caramel, candy, a touch of whisky. Medium to heavy body, medium carbonation. A good beer for sure, but I was expecting something more...

550 ml bottle. The beer is a hazed copper color with a beige head of foam. Good retention. The aroma has some acidic raisin, oak, dust. As the beer opens up more, the acidity seems to subside and allow more of a mellow sweetness. Thicker mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Not bad, really not what I expected.

Bottle from Stewart’s Wine Company 130215. What a great flavour and aftertaste this beer has. Raisins and port soaked currants come to mind. Big whiff of oak in the nose.

Delicious from a 18.7 ounce bottle. I’m not going to describe this ale as I always have others, because the commercial description is spot on. ABV at 8% (on this bottle) is not a factor. Very smooth and drinkable, though complex.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of nice caramelized malt notes with subtle toffee notes is quite enjoyable. Taste is also dominated by caramelized malt notes with light toffee notes with a hint of residual sugar notes. Malt notes are really well balanced and showed clear cereal notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Good example of a style that should be brewed more often.

(Samuel Smiths Yorkshire Stingo) Bottle 550 ml, served into a big snifter, ABV 8% on the label. Deep red amber colour on the body, two fingers of thick and creamy tan head, with good retention, leaving medium lacing behind. Aroma has cork, oak wood, caramel, raisins, prunes, light vanilla and alcohol. Nice, sweet taste, lots of red and dark fruits, sugars, warming alcohol, cake, plums, some oak wood again but less than the aroma implied, vanilla. Medium to full body, nicely carbonated. Very good.
