3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 brugmanneke (48) - GERMANY - JAN 18, 2012
(75 cl bottle) Yellowish, pale golden color and hazy, with a big white head. Resinous smell - characteristic of all Malheur beers I have tried so far. Fruity aroma, maybe apricots, green apples and some citrus fruit. And again resin, pine needles or something similar. Lightly bitter, lightly sweet. Fizzy carbonation, alcoholic warming finish. Smooth. Not a beer for every occasion, but well-made and very enjoyable.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tiong (996) - Espoo, FINLAND - DEC 31, 2011
750ml bottle
Pours dark yellow with a tiny white head. Aroma has notes of fruits, spices and malts. Taste is quite strong and fruity with a lot of carbonation and spicy notes. Finish is strong and warming, alcohol comes slightly through. Tasty, well balanced strong Belgian ale.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 lusikka (2056) - Tampere, FINLAND - DEC 31, 2011
750 ml bottle. BBE 01.12.2012.
Goes boom when opened. Pours a golden colour with some bubbles and a frothy white head. Aroma of caramel, grains, dried fruits and some nice smoke-like elements. Very rich flavour of caramel malts, strong dried fruits such as apricot, toffee, wood and quite bitter hops. Full bodied, rich and quite dry mouthfeel with a long warming finish where the dried fruits and alcohol really feel. Complex and elegant.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Swaroga (255) - Brussels, BELGIUM - DEC 18, 2011
15cl bottle sample @ Kerstbierfestival ’11, Essen. Another classy, champagne style bottle. Beautiful clear yellow, almost fluo. The head is medium with big bubbles that never disappear completely. Nose : dried fruits, smoked wood character, citrus notes. Some herbs. I didn’t take a sip but I was allready sure it will be a dry taste. Sip : DRY with citrus notes. Nose aromas comes into live. It’s the closest beer to champagne I ever tasted. Not my stuff but I would buy I would always choose it over champagne. A great delight.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 RuneStumo (1375) - FØRRESFJORDEN, NORWAY - DEC 16, 2011
16.12.2011. 0,75l Champagne bottle with 11% abv. vinmonopolet.no. Orange colour with a never ending white head. Very lively carbonated. Very good aroma of wheat and lots of floral hops. This beer is very light in colour, but there is both strength and lots of flavour. Very nice bitterness with aromatic floral hops. Notes of apples and white wine (!). Maybe it is the bottle that gives me those feelings!. Medium to rich with strong body that hides the alcohol. Very good beer with lots of flavours.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 glennmastrange (1545) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - NOV 18, 2011
Bottle. Moderate malt and hop aromas of grain, hay and grass, light to moderate funky and cheese for the yeast, with hints of white wine and apple. Head is huge and erupts from the bottle (making a friggin mess if you’re not ready for it), frothy white with excellent crusty lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is mostly clear yellow/amber. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and slightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, watery with a fizzy carbonation. Light and fruity, this Belgian Strong Ale has a lot of good aspects to it, all but the eruption soon after the de-corking.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 markwise (2694) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - NOV 14, 2011
Thanks to PaulUnwin for sharing this one. Cheers, Paul! Pours a hazy orange yellow with a frothy white head that recedes into lace all over the glass. Nose is Belgian yeast, some caramel and malt, some apple, and some spices along with some mild hops. Flavor is similar with malt and Belgian yeast as the most prominent flavors. Interesting overall.
