4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 JaBier (2999) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - FEB 8, 2012
Bottle purchased at Mr. B’s in Denver during GABF 2011 and sampled during the Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 1/21/12. Pitch black pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of whiskey, chocolate, roast, vanilla and oak. Vanilla and oak start things off in the flavor, then dark chocolate and roast come through strongly all the way to the finish. Possibly the best beer of the tasting.

(Template) Tasted either at NotB or EBF. There’s no way I could have taken proper notes on all the great beer I tasted within those 24 hours so I will just let the Aroma,Appearance,Taste,Palate,Overall scores speak from themselves.

Pouring at the Night of the Barrels on the Friday night of EBF 2012. Pours a deep brown to black with a thin to medium sized deep tan head. Big smooth bourbon and vanilla on the nose, roast. Medium bodied, bourbon and vanilla, wood. Spicy wood and malt, lots of roast. Lingering alcohol.

Bottle shared at a recent BA/RB tasting... Poured black with little-to-no head. Huge barrel character. Lots of oak and wood tones. Big roastiness. Charred characters. Ash-like with hints of vanilla and coffee. I got a lot of barrel character yet nothing that totally distinguished it as whiskey, which was quite unique.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Dogbrick (4522) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 25, 2012
Sample at the 4th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/21/2012: The beer pours a viscous black with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Oaky aroma of bourbon, vanilla and dark malt. Rich body with a boozy quality and flavors of oak, vanilla, charred malt and dark chocolate. The finish is plums and bourbon. Good beer all around.

2011 Vintage
Tasted in November 2011 from a capped 750mL bottle shared by CurtisMacArthur, big thanks! Pours completely oily, thick black, with an average brown head that slowly recedes to thin lace and a thick collar. The nose is darkly roasted coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, earthy basement yeast, whiskey, vanilla, anise, and cinnamon oak. The flavor is more vanilla, anise, and whiskey dominated, with dusty coffee, caramel, and molasses malt. The body is full and oily with light carbonation and a long whiskey, vanilla, and anise finish.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 DavoleBomb (965) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 20, 2012
Poured into a snifter. 2011 vintage. Bottle #1896.
3.5 A: The Yeti series are sexy looking imperials, but this one is a little different. Black color. Two fingers of creamy light brown head. Retention is a good bit worse than the original and a small ring of lacing is left.
2.0 S: Hmmm. This is pretty disappointing. First of all, it doesn’t really smell much like Yeti at all. Secondly, this is either showing signs of infection or the bourbon or barrels used suck. Something along the lines of tangy/earthy fruits. It isn’t sour or tart, but it’s like a tangy melon and apple. Perhaps a touch vegetal as well. Plenty of vanilla and oak. Despite whatever is going on with the barrel, the worst part is that I can’t pick up much of what I love about Yeti. Where is the soft roastiness, the chocolate, the molasses, and the coffee?
1.5 T: Again, I’m not sure if something is wrong with this or not, but it isn’t good. Tangy fruitiness and vegetal components from the bourbon. Vanilla and oak. Light roastiness, but very little in terms of the usual Yeti flavors. Something along the lines of an acrid finish.
2.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. This is missing the creaminess that I like in an imperial. Not particularly smooth either since the tanginess of the bourbon is distracting.
2.0 D: As someone who loves the hell out of every other Yeti variant, I must say that drinking this was exceptionally disappointing. I really hope it’s just this bottle that sucks and that it isn’t infected. In any case, this isn’t a good beer.

YIKES it doesn’t get much better than this for this style. I’m a HUGE fan of the standard Yeti. Add in the Oak Aged process and a FANTASTIC beer becomes even better!
Big thick milky tone with an awesome hoppy finish. The Oak Aged process adds notes of vanilla. Superb beer. You owe yourself to try this if you like IPAs, Stouts, or Imperial Stouts!
