COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

Very near perfect IPA. Was visiting Florida and luckily found it at the local Publix in Hallandale. It has been near the top of my list of beers to try. As food as delivered. Aroma was of sweet orange, grapefruit, mango and floral scents. Pours a hazy orange color with a big frothy off-white head that leaves quite a bit of lacing down the glass. A somewhat medium mouthfeel and some resinous feel to it. Kind of oily. Hops are evident throuhout, but never once do they overpower the other flavors. More of a perfect compliment. Flavors really burst on the tongue and in the back of your throat. It’s truly a wonderful beer and one I hope to drink a lot more of in the near future.

12 oz can poured into Spiegelau IPA glass. Light orange color with an off-white medium head that lingers. Mango, citrus, and a hint of pine on the enticing aroma. Delicious taste of tangerine and hop bitterness with a slight malt presence in the finish. Outstanding IPA. One of the most refreshing beers I’ve ever enjoyed.

Can. Orange, caramel malt and weedy/herbal aroma. Hazy amber with moderate head. Sweet orange caramel malt and moderately bitter earthy herbal orange peel flavor. Nice balance.

12oz. can to glass. Believe the hype. Aroma of juicy hops, I mean juicy. Appearance is a clear burnt orange with a big head. Lacing left as it goes down. Taste is wonderful, juicy hops dominate your tastebuds. Grapefruit, mango and pineapple. Well carbonated. This beer is one of the best, so glad I snuck some home in the ’ol suitcase. Only wish I had snuck more.

Draft at Megs--just love it, it always makes me think of grapefruit whenever I have one. Pours a dark orange color with a medium white head. Aroma of flower and hops with some caramel. Taste of sweet grapefruit and some sneaky, but filling biscuit. Medium carbonation. I can’t believe I can pick this up wherever I want. One of the best things about Florida.

330ml can served in a pint glass. A: Pours a clear dark orange color forming a modest creamy white head with great retention and only few spotty lacings left in the glass. S: Strong notes of caramel and flowery hops in the nose. Strong notes of pine, resin, mango and grapefruit. Very fruity nose. T: Sweet upfront. Strong notes of caramel and crystal malts becoming quickly grassy and bitter. Strong and very persistent bitterness. Good bittersweet balance. Strong notes of pine, grapefruit and resin. American style Ale yeasts. Bready and biscuity. M: Medium to heavy body. Average carbonation. Caramel, grass and grapefruit in the aftertaste. Persistent hops bitterness. O: Excellent drinkability. American classic IPA. Masterpiece.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2015 Bottled, canned, on tap - you don’t live in Tampa Bay without having this a few times. No detailed notes - just realized I’ve somehow never entered this. The other 1500 folks probably have it covered. Not my favorite CCB IPA, but it’s still great.
