COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Guava Grove Ale is a Belgian ale that sees a secondary fermentation with and extended aging on Guava puree. The complex flavors imparted by both the Belgian yeast strain and the Guava are unlike anything you are likely to have encountered. This is an elegant beer that pairs well with white fish, mussels, fresh tropical fruits and earthy cheeses. It also makes a fine accompaniment to Guavaween festivities.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a hazy orange body with a big creamy white head. Aroma is peppery yeast tones, alcohol, fruit (guava? can’t really tell, as I can’t recall the taste), papaya and hints of pineapple. Taste is the unknown fruitiness I can only assume is guava (this is the second time Cigar City reveals a for me hitherto unknown flavor in a beer; last time was cedar wood), papaya (or do I mistake that flavor for guava?), citric tones and hints of grassy hops. Original and quite nice, but a real nut to crack when it comes to rating. :-P

Bottle: Served at Baby Shower to celebrate! Complex, delicious fruits, heavy malt and great aroma. Champagne like velvet. Food Pairing: Drink alone to enjoy.

Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy orange-amber color with a large foamy yellow-white head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was sweet and yeasty with pepper and a bit of guava. The flavor was tangy and sweet with moderate tropical fruits, sugar and bread. The finish was long and tangy with lingering tropical fruits. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

750 ml bottle bought through Brill & Co. Pours deep golden with a white head that leaves no trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet with old hay, farmyard, sweet fruits and lemon peal. Taste is sweet and full bodied with candy sugar, sweet fruits like plums mandarin oranges and of course guava, lemon zest, hints of farmyard and spices. Finish is sweet and fruity with farmyard hints.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Valkendorfgaten, Bergen. Pours clear amber/golden with a big short lastening white head. Aroma is tropical fruity with some yeast and hops. Taste is light sweet malty, wood and oak, high carbonated with a smooth moderate dry mouthfeel. Me like a lot.

Bottle, 75cl, at Patricks. It pours a big, white head over an unclear, orange body. The aroma is on the fruity side, with a distinct hoppyness and some white sugar and alcohol. The flavor blends sweetness and bitterness, incorporating alcohol, fruityness and some alcohol. It’s full-bodied and lightly warming, with pleasant carbonation. A really pleasant one, well worth a revisit or two. 120121
